Hi Maureen, just had my book out to identify my fieldfare - wondering now if your's is a Redwing - where are Ray and Toto when you need them.
14 Jan, 2010
\redwings have a splash of red along the edge of the wing. This is a fieldfare. The two birds are very much alike. Fieldfares are about 10 inches and redwngs slightly smaller.

Thanks Lindak....did you get that Dawn.......definately no red on this ones wings.....

I've never seen a fieldfare but I have seen redwings. They seem to go about in flocks though and once I had a whole crowd of them in the garden - it was in a very cold spell like we've just had. I look out for them every year now, but none so far this year.

They've been coming into my garden too - hitting the fallen seed from the feeders and the apples and pears which get put out for them. Even seem to manage to boss aound the blackbirds.
