My Ice Cream banana growing in front yard. It has a new leaf emerging which will probably be torn to shreds soon. Our beautiful warm spring to summer weather is going to change tomorrow. We are going to be receiving a series of very strong El Niño type storms through all of next week. Rain which will be very welcomed...as we have had no rain this year so far. Photo taken Jan. 17, 2010.

David:
This banana variety is pretty wind tolerant. However, the new leaves are most susceptible to winds. Bananas plants continue to grow leaves until they bloom and develop bananas. I have several bananas varieties in my back yard which are much less tolerant of winds though.

I do hope this lovely plant won't be too badly wind-damaged. Will it grow new foliage readily?
