I like ferns I have a few in my garden.

Sueb .. I like ferns a lot .. I've always had some variety or other in my gardens and this garden is no exception. I do particularly like this dwarf tree fern however and it's always great to see the new growth.

I’m really pleased mine have survived the hard winter …..So far! I love the way they unfurl they are quite mystical don’t you think?

Yes I think you're right about that Sueb ... maybe it has something to do with the fact that they are from such an ancient family of plants ... to think they were on the earth for a couple of hundred million years before any of the flowering plants!!! The very first plant that I grew was a fern given to me by my granny and I've had them ever since!

I think they must be the most hardy plant family there is.

Lol ... well they certainly found their place here and have lasted for so long.

Bernieh:

It looks like it loves the spot! My Blechnum gibbum is growing many new frond too. I finally put into a pot -- from when it was dug out of the ground a month or so ago. It'll go back into the ground once I build my shade structure in front of my house.

Your Silver Lady fern still looks young...how old is it?

Just catching up with your comment Andy ... sorry! Yes I've got two of these ferns and they're both young ... not sure how old they are. I got them with a voucher I received at Xmas time ... and this is the first new frond.

Bernieh:

So this fern is still a baby. : > ) Their fronds can grow quite long in time.

My fern has 13 fronds coming out at this time...they look perfect in the shade of my Kentia palm. I posted a pic about a week or so ago.

Marguerite ... it's because I can't plant anything in the ground here anymore. We're on bedrock ... and the large outdoor garden beds that were built up many years ago are now completely compacted. It's impossible to plant anything out there now. There is no soil and unless we win the lotto and invest heavily in a landscaping project, I will have to continue planting up pots!
