The succulent garden belongs to this house. It was a very well maintained garden. Photo taken Feb. 14, 2010.

What an amazing garden, it must be wonderful to grow all those succulents outside with no worries about the winter killing them.

Terratoonie:
Thanks! : > )
Red painted curbs are for emergency vihicles only i.e., fire trucks, ambulances.
Dottydaisy2:
Yes, we grow many very tender plants outside in Southern California. The coast is especially mild...freezing temps and frost are not known in these areas. Also, the urban districts in the City of San Diego -- frost is extremely rare maybe a very light frost once a decade...a freezing temp hasn't been recorded in downtown San Diego in almost 50 years, however,
some coastal parts of the city have never recorded a freezing temp.
Sandra:
Thanks! I thought you might love this garden. : > )

Sandra:
I think the large cactus in the background is: Opuntia cylindrica

No frosts, that would be heaven!!

i thought it might be ...there was a huge one at sigleton park..but not that huge...do u know what colour flowers does it have?

Sandra:
I think they're yellow and red...can't remember. I took some pics last year of some blooming. I may have possibly lost them when my computer crashed last week. I hadn't done a back up on my computer for almost 5 months...and lost more than 1,000 photos in cyberspace. : > (

no way...thats terible....
.i only have a small memory on my laptop so i have an external memory and i have backed up loads on cd.....but still managed to loose my tomato photos from last year..

Sandra:
Yes, I back up on DVD's....however, haven't done it in a while. Now, I've purchased an external hard drive to back up everything once a week or so. I've learned my lesson. (the whole experience was a nightmare and I didn't have my computer for 3 days)
The ironic thing about my computer crashing...is that it was caused by a Microsoft Window's update. It wasn't even my fault...I'm always so careful with my computer.
16 Feb, 2010
I'm really late commenting on this but I've had similar problems with "automatic downloads" from Microsoft Windows!!! I have other software on my computer which seems to play update tag with MS...
It is important to own your computer! If you can't tell MS what you want and what you don't you take a chance that you'll have some problems like that. I've changed my settings from the "auto" to "tell me"....I'll make the decisions.
Can see why you took this picture! wow! love that look.

Lori:
I actually did the update which crashed my computer...I will never allow automatic updates on my computer. I found out later that this update patch caused many computers to crash. Now, I'm very cautious with the updates.
It was Valentine's Day and a warm 80F/27C. day. This garden was located at Moonlight beach.

Wow...did you know that that place rents for 16K a month?!!

Lori:
Where did you get that information?
8 Nov, 2010
Just googled Moonlight Beach San Diego...

Lori:
I didn't realize it was quite so expensive to rent a house in Encinitas..but it is a big surfacing area.

From what I saw I would say that it's the usual for beachfront. Can people own the land right on the sea? or is it a 99 year lease type of thing?
9 Nov, 2010
Lori:
Yes, the property can be purchased and owned on the coast in CA. In Hawai'i all the property from what I remember is a 99 year lease. Only true Hawaiian people can purchase and own the land outright.

Land of the free....??
13 Nov, 2010
Lori:
California is the land of the extremely expensive! :>)

From all that I've seen, I really hope to see Hawai'i. The south Pacific has always intrigued me...and I recently found I had "long lost" cousins in Australia. It's a very long way to go, but the experience would be priceless.
15 Nov, 2010
Lori:
That would be a great trip for you: first go to Hawai'i for a week or so...then fly to Australia. It would make the trip a little less long. :>)
I would love to go to Australia! I hope to go within the next next 3 -5 years! :>)

That will be lovely, D1! You will have so many photos to share!

Sandra:
Many of the succulents and Aloe species are blooming now. There will be many more photos posted in the future. :>)
23 Nov, 2010
( : - ) Isn't it terrific, Sandra? I'm waiting to see the pics, D1!

Lori:
I'll be taking a lot of photos this coming Holiday Weekend...it's Thanksgiving Day this Thursday...so I'll have a lot of time after the that. :>)

That's a pretty garden :o)
Can you explain that red edge by the road, please ?
Put there by the house owners to keep vehicles away ?
