Dawn??? Oh well - I answer to anything! lol.
Yes, it's a new one - I haven't grown it before and I love it. I'll be looking out for more of them in the autumn. : -))))

definitely silk taffeta for a fine lady.
I love these plants. childhood memories of spending 2/6d to buy a bunch for my mum when she was not well. which was quite often really. they are £3 a bunch in the local florists.
I can never 'keep' them from one year to the next.

I do hope that this one stays. The mauve ones reappear. If not - I shall get some more! They were £1.99 for 10 corms, I think.

Amazing. :-))

I'm very pleased with them, David. :-)))

This is a gorgeous colour, i just have the pink and purple ones :-/
I want !!!
22 Mar, 2010
You can grow some if you get corms in the autumn!
22 Mar, 2010
wonderful colour , I have some corms that I haven't put in yet thanks for the reminder :o))
22 Mar, 2010
I've been to get my packet after reading that about getting corms in the autumn , I bought mine in B&Q and it says .. Planting time .. Spring ....
Have they got it wrong Barbara advice please ...
22 Mar, 2010
i planted mine in the spring last year Amy.........and they flowered in may.. this year they are coming up now.....
22 Mar, 2010
I haven't come across A. "Bordeaux" here (yet). This pic shows it to be very similar to Cosmos "Chocolate" in colour (still got this stamped in my brain, lol!). :-))
22 Mar, 2010
It's more purple than the Cosmos, David - but similar, I suppose. I saw it in an article on new flowers, and looked out for it last autumn.
22 Mar, 2010
Amy - I read that you can do either - so I planted them in the autumn, successfully. I can't see any reason why a spring planting shouldn't work.
22 Mar, 2010
Thanks Barbara , I didn't want to get it wrong and they just went rotten .. :o)
They were so cheap .. 98p for 8 mixed colours , I thought they might have scimped on the instructions ...........
22 Mar, 2010
I just checked in my 'Dr Hessayon' book - he says plant in the autumn for flowers in March/April, and now for later flowers. Soak the corms overnight before planting. (I did that!)
22 Mar, 2010
Thanks Barbara , I wouldn't have known that , I will soak them tonight :o)
22 Mar, 2010
You're welcome! I hope you enjoy them as much as I am, Amy.
22 Mar, 2010
I've grown them before Barbara, but mine are only just coming through in the garden I also grow a few in pots & also a few pots for empty gaps. I also soak anemone corms.
23 Mar, 2010
Have you grown 'Bordeaux', Pam? I shall definitely get some more, if I can find any. :-))
23 Mar, 2010
Such a vibrant colour, stunning.
23 Mar, 2010
Yes, I've grown Bordeaux for several years now, Usually they are in the GCs on the racks with bulbs. Wyvale was one that had them. Let me know if you cann't get them.
24 Mar, 2010
Thanks, Pam. I'll wait until the autumn and try, then I'll let you know.
