Common Southern California Alligator Lizard

These lizards are all over the place. They are not afraid of people and can give a nasty bite. However, they don't usually bother. They can grow to 24 in. / 61 cm long. Photo taken March 28, 2010.

In the pacwest..they are almost black. Interesting. I think that's to absorb as much warm sun as they can up there.
