Amaryllis on living room table 2010-03-30

Opening for Easter;0)

Right on target as well! Today two of the four flowers are open. Perhaps a third will open tomorrow, if it doesn't make it by tomorrow it will certainly be open on Saturday. Perhaps the 4th flower will open on Easter Saturday.

I was thinking only yesterday how appropriate that the blood red flowers should open for Good Friday! The day when our Lord shed His blood for us!

The one you see in this photo has all 4 of its flowers open today, Easter Monday. I've done nothing other than have it on the living room table all winter. It hasn't really had a cold period either. In fact it's quite close to the radiator so it gets warmer than the seedling Amaryllis in the kitchen windowsill. They haven't moved an inch since I first put them there last spring. There is no heating anywhere near the window & in the evening they have to put up with being behind the closed blinds.

I'm afraid you will have to be patient, Holly. I've had to wait 4 years! Though this particular bulb has given me flowers every one of the 8 years I've had it! Several times it has flowered twice during the year as well. :-)

Hope it does flower soon for you, Holly. The first of the 4 flowers is just going over. :-( They are really lovely but last little more than a week open. :-( If I'm lucky I may get a 2nd stem later in the year.

I hope the white & the red & white ones in the same pot flower sometime this year.

My seedling Amaryllis have now begun to open. I've uploaded some of the first pics & will add another blog on them in a week or so.
