Have you got a crocodile yet?

Beautiful big plant, David, well spotted! Re: crocodiles, three section beasties used to be available for sitting into gravel - perhaps they are still around :)

No crocodiles, yet, Wagger. Have seen a 3-section croc on E-Bay recently, Gee. Keeping an eye open for something suitable. :-))

Would a nice log not do instead of a croc david. What do you do with all your props at the end of the season? Has all your snow gone It is still hanging around on the hills.

Perfect plant for your new theme...well spotted!

I do like saxifrage, and might get a couple more. The same GC has lovely stepping stones in the form of coils of rope, which would look great in the gravel "beach" area. :-))
A log, or logs? Great idea, Scotsgran, if I can find and adapt some. All "props" are kept - not that we collect too many, and none expensive. Some stay out all year, some go in the shed, others go on to be re-invented. We'll be able to re-use a lot of Halloween stuff with this theme, and use this theme for Halloween, too! (Thank Goodness for the £1 stores!!). From our Wizard of Oz garden, we still have Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and the "Yellow Brick Road", etc., signs. Meant to re-invent Tin Man last year as Willy Wonka, but he got a reprieve, as could not find the clothes, lol! He may "tread the boards" this year as a pirate??
All plants (perennials) are kept, of course. We love them all. Most of the "chocolate" ones will be ideal for this year's theme, not only because of their darkish colours. The phormium and cordylines we have are great, of course, and our ever-growing collection of grasses look good on "the beach", too. Most of the themed plants, however, are annuals, which we mostly grow from seed, and the edibles, of course, get eaten. :-))
Yes, the snow has totally gone, except for on the hills outside town. :-))

Have you got a sawmill near you where you might get one fairly big piece of rough trunk. Crocs do look like logs in the water don't they. A bit of fir, pine would be ideal. If I had known we could have given you a bit when we had the tree surgeons here. My father used to buy "backs" from the saw mill in Forres. These were thin strips taken off before the trunks were cut up. You could place them on a long mound of earth to make a realistic croc. What fun. I have put up a non gardening question about the possibility of having Goyers intimate local gardening events with a view to being able to meet fellow goyers. Please have a look and see what you think.

Can't think of sawmills, offhand (mostly papermills around here), but another brilliant idea. :-)) This could, indeed, be great fun!
Have left a comment under your question, which, I think, is not so "non-gardening" as you say, as this already happens. The idea of a forum for posting future local events, I think, is brilliant!! :-))

Thank you. Hopetoun Sawmill about 3 miles west of SQ off the A904 would probably be able to offer you backs if that is not too far away for you. Your children are very lucky to have so much fun with you.

Only 30 mins drive from here - Thank You! Methinks I'm the lucky one to have children to have fun with! Gives me an excuse for "never growing up" LOL!!! :-))
