What a brillint collection, Amy, and all free :) When I cut my clematis back a few weeks ago I popped the chopped off pieces into pots! I hope they take. Is it usual to take cuttings in the autumn?

Thanks everyone ... I'm no expert 6p .... but I will try to explain to you how I do the cuttings ...
I do this at the beginning of September ..
1. Select a nice piece of new growth from the plant with leaves and nodules that are approx 6 /7 " inches apart .. it dosn't have to be exact . ..
2. I like to choose a piece that has nice plump nodules where it joins the leaves ..
3. have a very sharp knife or razer blade ready and a clean board , make a clean cut through the stalk half way between the leaves and cut again above the top leaves and there you have it one cutting ready dip in rooting compost and pot up . carry on and do the next one if you want more ....
4. make sure the compost comes up to and almost covers those nice plump nodules leaving the leaves free , if you have a lot of leaf you can cut a couple off ... .
They take quite quickly you will soon see if they have .. good luck . let me know if you do any .. :o)

Thanks San / 6p , you try it after all you haven't lost anything if it dosn't work but much to gain if it does .. ... put about 4 in each pot until they have taken and need repotting , they seem to like company .. :o)

I missed this picture Amy - clever you and they look so healthy. I've grown some Tangutica from seed, they're doing OK but not as good as yours.

Thanks Dawn .. I had one Tangutica , it was fine all through the winter but as soon as I planted it outside in the spring it died , i;m not sure if the frost caught it or if it was because we put it where we had treated the ground for honey fungus .. Grrr

I've made a note of how you take cuttings Amy, thank you.
Sorry you lost your Tangutica, if you need one I can send one over.

OK Amy, let's hope the contamination has now gone, it was well worth the work although it was tough for you.
