I do think a small tree would look nice in the middle of that lawn Sandra. I can't help feeling it's a bit blank at the moment.

Golden hornet is quite small, but how small do you want it Sandra? You could go for a bay tree in a pot....mmm...might look a bit 'lost' it's quite a big bit of lawn....my dwarf fruiting cherry would look nice. It won't get above 2m tall, it's about 1.4m at the moment. something grafted would be nice. You know what would be lovely? that cornus kousa that I used to have in Dundee. It was grafted on to a standard and it was really stunning. The bracts start white and then as the leaves grow they turn a lovely salmon pink and they stay on for ages and if you're lucky you get red fruits afterwards, and then the stunning autumn colour. It had a name.....Cornus Kousa 'Satomi' I will try to find a picture and upload it for you......hang on.....

thanx karen, i dont want it to big, probably nothing bigger than 3metres in height and not to big on top, lol, because i dont want anything which has a creeping root because of my pond liner,i will check out the pic if you have posted it yet ;o))

Cant help you with trees, still an amateur, but ~I certainly can comment on your garden. It's really beautiful. Congrats, all so nicely layed out, it's in great shape too with round edges etc. Bravo

Hi San, I don't know about the roots of the crab apple, but it's the right size.

thanx titchy for your kind comments, i appreciate it, i love being in my garden, its never to much trouble, not like housework haha ;o)
thanx karen, a lady today said i should watch i dont get a tree which is to bushy with being on the lawn, she said it shouldnt shadow the lawn to much , not good for grass,
6 May, 2010
Yes, absolutely, you would get a lot of moss etc. Best to go for something with a light and airy habit...like a cornus kousa satomi!! lol!
