Speckled Wood butterfly on hawthorn buds.

Beautiful picture they look like little eyes on their wings.

Aye they do Sixpence , quite a few butterflies and moths have them.Toto said it helps distract predators away from their heads and confuses them ..as much as I hate to give him any credit ( lol ) makes a lot of sense doesnt it .

Yes it does like birds with large eyes or the frog puffing it self up to make it look bigger to protect it self, I am always wary of people with eyes that are to close together or small eyed.

Seen a lot of these this year, lovely photo BB.

Haven't seen any so far down here. Only the odd Orange Tip.
