Lovely isn't it, a kind friend on the Isle of White sent me 10 seeds, so two plants wasn't bad.
No its not a bulb sixpence has really thick tuberous roots, member of the lily family apparently, can split it like a perennial.

Beautiful Kathy and unusual. What's the plant to the left, at the front?

Thanks Meanie and Dawn, the plant on the left is lobelia tupa, did I send you seed of that?can't remember, a stunner, looks like it'll be even better this year, amazed it survived the winter as it looks quite tropical when it flowers.

Thanks Kathy, yes you did and I grew them and some are planted out but they're only about an inch high - I cant wait until they get this big. Its so exciting as most of the seeds I've grown Im not familiar with.

Mine didn't grow that much first year, but just get better each year now, around 4ft last year, can get to 6 or 8ft in sheltered spot, look on my pictures under perennials page 2,3rd row down pictures 3 and 4 :-)

Oh this is a stunner, I wonder how long these flowers last, a couple of weeks, or less?

Not sure Tommymoo, flowers seem to be gradually opening upwards, have to make a note when they finish, be better when the clump gets bigger and there's lots of flowers :-)
