Thanks simbad, i got this quite cheap from a local hardware store but i have now seen it on websites and it is quite expensive. Have had it about 4 years, it does seem very happy! Its in a pot at the moment do you think it would be ok to put it into the ground when the times right

Lucky you you got a bargain, sure it'd be fine to plant it in the garden, know you have to plant a couple of inches deeper than they are in the pot, because of clematis whilt but think that affects later varieties, Louise1 and Karensusan are the clematis experts , they have loads so sure they'd give you advice, don't have many clematis but after seeing all the beautys on here this year will have to get some more, yours is first on my list :-)

thanks yorkshire and thanks again simbad :^) X ps i did plant it deeper in the container and it just seems to get better each year, this is why i hope it will still do well in the garden!

Hi Daylily Your clematis looks beautiful. I bought one of these last year and as you said , mine started off with about five single blooms and they were a completely different colour from now. This year I have 2 blooms open which are the same as yours and about 7 more buds still maturing. It is not as bushy as yours but this is only its 2nd year. I have mine planted in the garden, Plant the roots quite deep and keep them (the roots) shaded , as clematis like their heads in the sun but their roots in shade. I usually cover them with a layer of gravel ar a few pieces of broken slab or rock around them. It will do fine . Mine survived it through all that snow we had.Hope this helps.

This clematis produces 2 types of flower.
If you prune in late winter (as we all should) it'll produce single flowers.
If you don't prune then, it'll produce double flowers.

Because it started with single flowers it shows it was pruned correctly before you bought it.
Because you didn't prune it this year it has produced the doubles.

I have 2 of these plants and prune one of them to give me singles and one to give me doubles !!!!
Best of both worlds :-)))

thanks everyone, i did cut it back earlier in the year to new growth (not right down to the soil) because its in a large container, but i had another look at it today and its now got a couple of single flowers aswell as the doubles. Im posting a picture later. But its the only clematis i have at the moment and i am more than pleased with it. :^)
