A wild rhododendron that grows in the spruce along the wet flat portions. Not a large one, but these blooms carpet across bits of wood and along some roadsides. A lovely sight.

Very pretty! I often find the wild forms of some of our common plants so much more appealing than the cultivars. Azaleas and hydrangeas come to mind. I don't especially like azaleas, but the native species? Wow. And give me a simple oak-leaf hydrangea over some overly-puffy specimen anytime.

Thank you all. This is just in the shadows behind the cabin. I do prefer many things wild, such a free form to them that you don't see in the cultivars, though I love those too.....lol. I do wish these had a nice fragrance, they are earthy and almost stinky in too much heat. There is a birchleaf spirea next to it that is divine. I want to culivate a bit into the garden but to find the time. A bulldozer sits outside ready to flatten all the land behind my house tomorrow, then I've a fresh slate to bring in wild things and save any scattered root.

Just seen this lovely photo of this wild rhododendron, it's a lovely, simple flower which makes it all the more captivating!
What was a bulldozer doing out back of your place? Is there some construction work going on?

Thanks. I do love having this around, as we can't get away with any others. The bulldozer is the landowner doing some landscaping by flattening some old heaps (where the wild raspberries are) to get more soil to widen his driveway. I'd rather not see everything cleared but that is the fastest easiest way.
