Now I'm feeling nostalgic as I took my driving test in a car like this ! My instructor used to say when you've got the 'bite' right between clutch and accelator the bonnet rises up slightly ! I love the wing mirrors, they looked huge back in the day. Like the AA badge too.

Awh, that's sweet. The first car I remember as a little un was a light green Cortina. I still know the numberplate, how desperate is that. It felt like a member of the family : o )

My Dad had several of these as company cars. He hit a bump in one and the seat almost fell through the floor! It was only two years old.
I have several classic Mercs on my books, so I know what a labour of love these old cars are.

thanx meanie, we saw some lovely mercs at the blackpool transport and car show last week, old and new, baz spends hours doing his cars up, thanx for your comment ;o)

Not sure what your hubby does for a living, but if he's not in the motor trade, he may have a little chuckle when he hears that I'm scrapping seven year old cars nowadays as they're beyond economic repair!
Once these oldies are up together, they truly represent cheap motoring.

It would look nice with some plants around it lol ;o)

Best advice that I can give you is if you do want to replace it, avoid modern diesel engined cars. Two examples....
2004 Peugeot 307 diesel; headgasket replacement £1000!
2003 Mondeo diesel; injector pump worn out needing new pump and injector overhaul/replacement. Parts were £1980 not including labour for replacement, new component programming to ECU etc - car scrapped!
Your Saab is pretty old school with regards to electronics etc, so a good bet for many more years of reliable service.
I'm working at home this morning looking for a cheaper replacement cylinder head for a Passat tdi - Volkswagen want £2000 for the head! Some of the bills nowadays are scary, and so much of it is on parts.
If you ever need an unbiased (maybe blunt) opinion feel free to ask. In our workshop, we cover all makes with a specialist field in Mercedes, Bentley & Rolls Royce older models.

yes prices are scarey, baz checked that site, "we buy any car" offered us 1200 for saab, cheek,, had a new steering rack last year and only had done about 53 thousand miles at the time,, not good really,,anyway will just keep looking and keep saab running till we decide, any addvice welcome thanx meanie.

Pretty good price considering the uncertainty over the future of Saab at the moment.
If you find something and would like my thoughts on it feel free to pm me.

Well Sand, how nostalgic! Shirleys comment about the 'bite' was also made by my instructor. It helped when you came to a junction, wait for the 'bite' and she shouldn't stall on you Lol. As for weedings comment, 1st car my Hubby had was mk2 cortina, I can still remember the number plate, and the colour was 'lagoon blue'. Thought we were the bees knees.Did much of our courting in that car. Lol. Changed it for a new mk3 cortina. That was nice too, but had to sell it for deposit for house. Ahhh. I now drive an oldish 2lt petrol Mondeo, but gas converted. Told Hubby I wanted a change. Wanted Mondeo, silverishy, automatic etc etc, and he found me this one, don't laugh, on ebay, in Spalding. hahaha. His'Baby' at the moment, is restoring a series 2 Land Rover. :o)

thanx stevie, glad you like it to ;o))
lol linda my step son converted a car to gas to, saves a fortune he said on petrol, i do enjoy seeing the cars baz does and the time he takes to keep them in good condition and running, makes me laugh when we are out and people wave lol and kids look at us like we are off another planet haha ;o))

Converting to gas is expensive, but mine was already done when we bought it. Down here petrol is like £1-17 a ltr and gas is 59.9 a ltr. So you can see for yourself the savings. I get gas in Morrisons, and they do a 'collect points' card, and you'd be surprised how quick the points add up, cos you're getting double points on the gas. :o)

thats great linda and points to ;o))
