Thanks everyone , I have tried the flowers they're quite nice if they are crispy ,make sure all the bugs are out first ...lol... I like Courgettes , they are nice split open with some garlic butter inside wrapped in tinfoil on the BBQ .. or fried gently with onions until they are nice and brown , when I have a lot I make Ratatouille then freeze it in portions for the freezer it's very handy to have in the winter ... I'm having these ones for supper tonight ... :o)

~ sounds nice with the garlic butter~must get my kids to give that a try when they next have a barbecue~ had my first new potatoes which were lovely~strawberries were fantastic too but the blueberries and blackcurrants didn't amount to a lot, this being their first year, hoping for much more next year!

Hurry up San :o))
If they like Garlic they will like the Courgettes done like that Arlene get them to scoop a groove down the middle so that it holds the garlic butter in then wrap them in tinfoil bake them until they are soft enough to eat but not to soft .... our Strawberries and Blackcurrants were good , the Blueberries were useless this year that may have been our fault as we were on holiday when they needed watering the most .........

Great crop they look delicious but they don't like me .

Yummy Amy. Still waiting for mine. I have plenty of flowers but nothing much in fruit. I fry them with onions, mushrooms, and diced bacon. That's yummy too. Depending on how my tastebuds are feeling, I sometimes toss them all in Oyster sauce. That's tasty too. :o))

Have just been out again to look at mine. Still no fruit, but the flowers are breaking off and just leaving a blunt stalk/stem. There doesn't seem to be any fruit setting. Any ideas Amy, why they are like this. :o))

Hi Linda , the usual cause is poor pollination when there's no fruit , I think in that case you have to give nature a hand . This calls for fertilizing 2 or 3 female flowers (tiny marrow behind petals ) by dusting the male flower ( thin stalk behind petals ) into the female flower , my book says it should be done in the morning , preferably on a dry day .. also make sure the plant is being kept watered ... I hope this helps :o)

Thanks Amy. Have had a lot of rain, so not been out garden. Then last week I had some kind of virus. Started with a touch of ear-ache, then went to my glands, I had a high temperature with the shivers, and then sweated like never before. I'm still feeling a bit rough, but getting there slowly. I wouldn't go out to tempt fate, as we're going away on friday for the week with my Daughter and her family. So I want to be well for that. I did go out garden today to have a look at everything, and noticed I have got one small courgette growing. I've still got a few flowers there but mostly flowerless stalks. So whether I've pollinated them myself not realising, when I've moved the leaves to look, I don't know. Will have to wait and see. :o))

I hope you are feeling much better Linda so that you can enjoy your week away , It must be catching because I've just been sick and have been shivery I thought it was the crab I had yesterday but maybe it's something going round .... you go off and have a nice break on Friday I hope the weather warms up for you ! xx

You are certainly doing well with your fruit and veg Amy..not sure I could do it, but it looks tempting! I did try runner beans in a large pot once..but they were a bit stringy!

Thats a shame Tet.. we do love our fruit and veg ... this last 2/3 years we have planned our holiday at the wrong time and have been away when the Strawberries / Raspberries etc. have been ripe , it was so disappointing to come home to find they were past their best , this year we won't go until later after they have fruited :o)

We try and go late april early may and then September cos we hate missing our summery garden..but maybe when we give up travelling I might have a go in the greenhouse..the garden is all flowers which I would be loath to give up.
