Yes, they can grow even larger than this specimen. This plant was put into the ground in late summer of 2008, if I remember correctly.

My colocasia made it thro the move...I thought it was dead ...but put the empty looking pot in the greenhouse and watered it...and there are sprouts! tiny...nothing like the above...BUT It's still ALIVE~! wonderful plants...going to baby this one.

Generally Colocasia species go dormant in winter (in most climates - except tropical or warm subtropical). They re-sprout in spring.

I just removed a groundcover in the front yard. I had Xanthosoma sagittifolium (Giant arrowleaf elephant's ears) growing in this spot years ago. Now that I've been giving the new plants in this area water the Xanthosoma sagittifolium have started growing again...I actually thought the tubers were all dead.

were you consciously trying to remove them, D1. such an interesting group of plants. I love mine and I shall try to keep this new start going ok.
I remember your photo of the Xanthosoma which were a very dark green with light veining...looked gothic!

No, the groundcover just took over the whole area. Now that I've removed the groundcover and put in sod it's growing again (especially with all the water I've been giving the new grass).

Yes, Xanthosoma sagittifolium becomes a gigantic plant here...its trunks can grow to more than 6ft/2m tall and the leaves are immense.

Was just looking at your pics, D1....Now that I have a greenhouse I'm hoping to extend the growing season for my Colocasia, Cannas and Castor Bean...will have a little bit of the tropics in one corner of the garden next summer!
