To my surprise, one of my hardy Gerberas has produced another flower!

Thanks - this bloom was a lovely bonus! I wasn't expecting to see it. :-))

This looks slightly different from my pink ones...these were sold as annuals here but were labeled a houseplant as well. I have overwintered mine for a few years, saving quite a few $$ as they cost $5 each & I have 5 or 6 different colors =)

Stunning!!!!

Fh - this is a Gerbera 'Everlast' and I expect that's why it looks different. I have four plants and they all came through two very cold winters, so the claim that they're hardy seems to be true!
Thanks, Pip. :-)

oh so lucky for you then =)

Yes - BUT - I bought a white 'Everlast' last year, and it didn't survive. :-((((
25 Sep, 2010
too bad...the name sure didn't fit it though

No - the only reason I can think is that it hadn't had long enough to get established before the frosts hit. :-((

you already have frost??
25 Sep, 2010
disregard my last comment...duhhhhh....last year right?
25 Sep, 2010
Yes - but the forecast I just saw said that some areas of the UK WILL get frost tonight! Brrrrrrrrrr........

Brrrrr...been cold here today but forecasting nice weather for the upcoming week =)

Our temperatures have dropped this last few days. I don't think they're going back up again, sadly. I could do with a few warm-ish days. :-/
26 Sep, 2010
me too...not exactly what I'd call warm this morning but a bit less windy than it was yesterday which makes a big difference.

nice here day time but blooming cold at night
26 Sep, 2010

That's lovely Spritz, I nearly bought one in the summer but couldn't believe they would really be hardy. Another for next years list :-))

Yes - I'd like another white one, but I'll hold fire on that, I think.
Thanks, Homebird. I'm feeling chilly indoors - so I do NOT feel like working outside!
27 Sep, 2010
OH cut a bit more grass, so I wrapped up and clipped some of the edges, then it drizzled on me and in I came. :-((
Liberty bodices? Oh yes - I remember them! lol.
27 Sep, 2010
I'm not - honestly! I had two sisters, and we all had to wear them - weren't they itchy!
27 Sep, 2010
Nice :o) Our plants do suprise us sometimes don't they.
28 Sep, 2010
Thanks, LadyE...yes, and this was a really nice surprise!
Homebird, can you remember the name of that malt extract? It used to be advertised on large posters on walls, and we always teased my younger sister by pointing them out - because she hated the stuff. It's driving me potty trying to remember its name....it's on the tip of my tongue, too.

YES!!! Thanks - that's the one. :-))))))
It isn't made of felt, honest! lol.
