This photo of my balcony was taken at the end of the1st week of autumn. I will be changing the three white flower troughs during the coming week & putting Pansies in all three underplanted with spring bulbs. As you can see I've already started with one. The other two should look similar shortly.

You can see I've started to change the summer bedding for the winter/spring bedding in the flower trough furthest from you in the photo, well just today I've done the same with the trough nearest you! Looks very similar to the one here. In the next couple of days I will do the last one - in the middle.
The three conifers are the only fixed, unchanging elements on the balcony - everything else is subject to change! Even they are getting a bit big now & the idea of planting them down on the allotment is starting to run through my mind! This year I noticed that I've had to give them far more water than any previous year. A sure sign they are too big for their boots - oops, I meant pots! LOL! :-))

I agree they do look nice but they need a lot more watering now. I cut the bottom half away 2 or 3 years ago so I could use the top of the pots for other plants but this year I've grown Busy Lizzies in pots in saucers on top of the soil. But there are still a few bulbs from previous years that are still in the pots. They are mainly Grape Hyacinths & I notice they are growing again this year. They flowered OK in the spring this year so the trees can't be exhausting the nutrients in the soil. I do give the trees fertilizer like the rest of my plants. Obviously the bulbs must benefit too even though they are dormant.
I'll give them another year on the balcony & see how they get on next year.

good idea.... you must get a lot of people stopping to admire all your plants... : O ))

Thanks, Holly. :-)) I do get a lot of people stopping to admire it! They even talk to me sometimes if I'm out there watering or deadheading or something. Until the buses stopped coming down our street & stopping very close to our block of flats, even the drivers would congratulate me sometimes!
Unfortunately my "gardening bug" doesn't seem to be contagious as nobody else in the block (there are 25 flats here) has even a single pot on their balconies that I can see from street level. ;-((
