Galah in casuarina

Galah in casuarina

It was strange to see him all on his own because galahs always travel in pairs - ALWAYS. Frances wanted to eat him, of course - but I managed to take some nice pictures of him.

Is the galah a member of the parrot species? I've not seen a bird that colour before...are they a common sight where you live in NSW?

They are very common Jacquie - not so much around Sydney (although it's not unusual to see one here) but they come in huge flocks in Canberra especially.

Forgot where you lived and thought that this must be an escapee at first.

Loved Sydney when I was their in 97, in fact loved all of Australia!

Pip c:

What a beautiful Galah Cockatoo! I especially love the coloring! Is it very noisy?

We have lots of parrots here...they tend to be very noisy! Although, very pretty to look at.

They aren't very noisy, Delonix, in fact they have quite a nice call that always reminds me of annual family holidays in Canberra :o))))) You hear galahs all the time in Canberra; they come in huge flocks down there.

Pip_c:

You're lucky, they're not very noisy!

All 13 non-native parrot species which have naturalized in California are extremely noisy. Their populations have exploded in the last 3 or 4 years here. They are creating a lot of noise pollution in many neighborhoods in San Diego. We have a flock (20+ parrots) which moved in my neighborhood just months ago...they used to only fly over for many years. Not sure where they're nesting, but it's close by now.

I've heard of these....probably on neighbours!! Isn't he fantastic though...what a lovely bird. I wonder if he's lost his partner, he looks a bit like he's scanning around for her doesn't he? Wow, what a beaut!!

Thanks! I think he's more interested in Frances, who's running round like a maniac underneath his tree :o))))
