This little Skimmia 'Magic Marlot' spent the summer safely potted up, and now it's the centrepiece in my small blue pot, with dark rose pansies and 'King of the Striped' crocuses underneath them.

This is a very pleasing combination, Spritz....like the colours very much...the Skimmia really sets the arrangement off.

Thank you. I really love this skimmia - I think it does best in a pot. I have two more, one in a bed, and you just don't notice it so close to the ground.

Lovely plant pot.

love the colours

Thanks. I hope it will look good in the spring, too. :-)

How gorgeous - the colours look fantastic together

That looks lovely , almost identical to one I have done except my Pansies aren't in flower yet I will have that to look forward to .. ;o)

Oooh! Great minds think alike, Amy! ;-) Crocuses too?
Thanks, Jan. :-)))

I love this combination B. Very tasteful!

Thanks....that's very kind. :-))

Keep a close eye on the skimmia though B. I bought two last year and they both died in the cold.

This is now in its third autumn, Karen! I have two others, one also as old, and the other is in its second year. I've been really pleased at how they've done. :-))
Sorry about yours, though. :-(

Ah, well....well done! It does look amazing and very healthy. It is such a pretty evergreen...perhaps I'll try again and place them in a more sheltered spot!
24 Oct, 2010
Yes, I would. I fell for this when I first saw it, and although it wasn't cheap, it has worked out a real bargain for me. I'd buy another one any time - the flowers last so long, and then you have the variegated leaves, too.
24 Oct, 2010
Yes, it's a beautiful plant, and yours is getting to be a good size now! The ones I bought last year were only about 6-8" across, but very eye catching. Anything with light colour on it in good in my book....for winter time!
24 Oct, 2010
I suppose it has grown since I got it, Karen. Are you going to get another one? It's probably the right time of year for the GCs to stock them.
24 Oct, 2010
Yes, they have them in at the moment but i don't know B...I'll have a look in the garden tomorrow and see if I can see an opportunity for more planting!
24 Oct, 2010
Better in a pot, really. It doesn't show to its full advantage in the ground.
24 Oct, 2010
Yes, that's kind of what I was thinking and I think I would need to buy another pot for it! It does look lovely in the dark pot you used...mmmmm....we'll see!

A pot-hunting trip! What fun! ;-)))
24 Oct, 2010
That's my mission this week too....have been gifted some bulbs from Daisyco and it'll soon be too late to get them planted up if I don't get more pots!
25 Oct, 2010
Lovely mission, Wl. Almost as much fun as plant hunting! Good luck - I hope you find what you're looking for.

A rather original arrangement. In the US, East, our season is shorter that yours. We mostly are stuck on a few combinations. But I like this Skimmia in the pot. Do you plant it, or leave in pot?
19 Feb, 2012
Hallo Wells - I pot it up in a separate pot, and it's kept safe from year to year. I hope that helps. :-)
24 Feb, 2012
Thanks. Love your dog! He looks big and handsome, A major tree if he were a growing plant.
24 Feb, 2012
He's a lovely boy, Wells. :-))
