Well done Dd .. how old is your tree ? I planted a pip approx 2 yrs ago , it's just over 1ft tall , was yours a pip from a lemon ?

Yes Spritz they will ripen, some are green and some are yellow, very thin skinned, we keep the tree out all summer and bring them into the garden room for the winter and winter feed every ten days.......

Lovely, looks exactly like mine with the mottling on the leaves...watch out for those blooming spider mites dotty! I shall increase my feeding now I've read your comments, as mine is looking a little bit sad...nothing serious, just not looking at it's best just now. I haven't been feeding it more than about once a month at most.

Hi all, the lemon tree should be fed all year, there is a summer feed and a winter feed, reading the instructions on my feed it says "Winter feed every 7-10 days from October to March pref with rain water .Summer feed from April, and the plant should be planted in a Citrus Compost, and then kept at a temp 10C (50F) over the winter they are fussy to say the least......we saw a 5ft tall one in a pot in France, covered in lemons.
I had a problem with red spider last year Karen.
There is nothing nicer though than picking your first lemon to go with a G & T..........

Thanks for reminding me it's a good idea to read the instructions on the feed! i do have summer and winter feed, but I am very lazy and tend to just 'wing it'!! I hope mine gets 5' tall!! It's about 2' at the moment, not including the pot. I must get some proper citrus compost though...I can't recall what kind I used, but it could do with a change of pot anyway. Thanks DD!

Me to Karen , I repotted mine a couple of weeks ago with ordinary compost that I use for potting up plants , help ! I will have to redo it .. Thanks Dd ... can't wait for that G & T ...

Your welcome girls, you can buy small bags of citrus compost at most GCs.......

I've been very good and bought some Citrus Compost , my Lemon tree has been repotted properly in it ... all I have to do now is to remember to winter feed every 7-10 days , that's the hard bit for me , I lose track of when I last did something , I must keep a note pad in the greenhouse ! ...

HB I am sure it will be really juicy.......Amy and Karen another little tip if you are keeping your plant in your sitting room etc which will be heated put the plant on a tray of gravel or clay granules then add water to just below the gravel surface (this is done to increase humidity) and not to overwater.......tips from the Telegraph this Saturday.

Yes, I keep two ramekins of water on the surface of mine DD. I'ts in the conservatory and loves it in there.

Oh yes, four new ones this year just ripening and about half a dozen small ones just about an inch and a half in size.

Well you must be doing something right to get that many lemons, I never get any more than 4......... and it is very slow growing, I expect it depends on the variety? well done you lots of G & Ts for you then.

lol....as usual!! I think it likes the conservatory Daisy and yes, it is very slow, but it seems to send up new shoots very quickly and then do nothing for ages (but I suppose it's growing the lemons then!). I ususally end up chopping a lot of the new shoots off as they are so long and straggly and I want it to keep it's 'standard' shape. Usually it flowers after I chop it, and then goes very very slow after that. Isn't the scent of the flowers wonderful? Mine is 'Four Seasons' btw.

I was going to leave mine in the greenhouse Dd .. and I was going to try to get away without heating it this year , Oh dear , am I in trouble already ??
