Another Gerbera!

Another Gerbera! (Gerbera)

What a nice surprise to find another bloom on my Gerbera 'Everlast' today.

Living up to it's name...beautiful!

Strange though, wouldn't you say? :-O

25 Nov, 2010

Well, its hard for me to comment as I am in the 'frozen north' It would certainly be strange if it happened here, but you have so much still in flower, it's amazing!

25 Nov, 2010

Yes, still quite a lot when I look around. I suspect not for much longer if the forecast's right, though. :-(((

25 Nov, 2010

You still hanging on in there without snow or even frost?

25 Nov, 2010

Correct! We've had two light frosts so far. Even now, they're saying 'snow flurries' in Somerset, but we are between the Quantock hills and the sea, so the hills go white on the top, and it (usually) misses us. :-)))

It's odd - I can often drive 3 miles up towards the hills, and find a distinct band of snow. (Not this year yet!)

25 Nov, 2010

Yes, Hywel has just told me that he never gets snow if the wind is from the east. We're the exact opposite. And like you, I can drive about 4 miles and be in deep snow when there's nothing at the coast here. I have bubble wrap now, so hoping to get it pinned to the greenhouse tomorrow.

I lost this Gerbera last winter...:<(

25 Nov, 2010

Oh dear, Motinot! I tried a white one, and lost that. I suspect it hadn't got its roots down properly. Was yours quite new?

Karen, our prevailing wind is a westerly, but at the moment I believe it's swung round to be a north wind. Fingers crossed!

25 Nov, 2010

Yes. Indeed. Did you get much snow last winter then?

25 Nov, 2010

About 1"...it was the first snow Henry had come across. He was really funny, lifting each paw up high as he walked across the lawn very gingerly! Over the other side of the Quantocks, they had heavy falls - enough to break branches.

25 Nov, 2010

How I envy you! all the lovely flowers you have still in bloom;0)

25 Nov, 2010

Yes, me too! I can just imagine Henry....how funny! That's about all we had last year as well. Frozen solid earth though...for about three months!

25 Nov, 2010

It's certainly a pleasure to see any blooms that appear, Pp.

We had frozen soil for about 3 weeks, I suppose...that was when the badgers broke in and dug deep holes in the lawns and ate all my tulip bulbs. :-(((

25 Nov, 2010

Oh yes, those badger critters!

25 Nov, 2010

Well - how could I forget all that? I was soooooooo upset. :-(((

25 Nov, 2010

Don't blame you....try not to think about it B!! Thank goodness for electric fencing eh?

25 Nov, 2010

Very pretty colour.

26 Nov, 2010

Thanks, Dd. Do you grow these? I read that there are more of the hardy ones coming for next year.

26 Nov, 2010

No, but I would very much like to, never bothered because they were not considered hardy.......will certainly grow them now if that is the case .

26 Nov, 2010

The 'Everlast' ones do seem to be hardy, Dd. There are more hardy ones being introduced next year - called 'Garvinea' gerberas. If I see any around, I'll definitely try one or two. They all need good drainage.

26 Nov, 2010

Do you reckon they would be hardy enough in Yorkshire Spritz? I'd love o try some, they are so pretty.

26 Nov, 2010

The new 'Garvinea' ones should be, if they live up to the description I read - they got a good 'write-up' anyway!

27 Nov, 2010

Maybe I'll give them a go later on then Spritz.

28 Nov, 2010

...We have to find them first, Bell!

28 Nov, 2010

Most Gerberas do - you're right. This series, just a few of them, are called 'Everlast' Gerberas, and they do seem to be hardy (under normal circumstances!!!)

29 Nov, 2010

I'll have to google them when I want some maybe, that's what I do with most things..lol

29 Nov, 2010

Lovely Gerbera, Spritz! :-)) My daughter gave me one a couple of years ago. Bright orange flowers. Lasted all summer on my balcony! I was very happy with it!

30 Nov, 2010

They are lovely, aren't they. I'm not sure what colours will be around in the new hardy ones, but if they're as good as the 'Everlast' ones, I'll be looking for them. :-)
