Would never have an "e" in me whisky, as this is the "overseas" spelling (origin Irish English, rather than Scots English). Can't stand the stuff, whether with an "e" or not, though. Leaves a sort of whisky/whiskey sour taste, lol!!!

Spot on, Arlene!!!!! Has been so tiring this week, getting to work - 2-3hrs each way, instead of the usual 40-45mins. Will be attempting another run in the morn,have packed bags, etc., as, if I get there, will be staying there until Saturday. Schools closed until next week, kids enjoying the sledging, etc Shona's workplace closed down.Thank Goodness Cardiff happened when it did - the rain seems so paltry, now! LOL!!! He he, Linda!!!! We are not good prototypes, are we? Hope you are warm and safe tonight with today's snow and tonight's plummeting temps (already -8C in Glasgow, according to the TV news). Got home okay on Sat., to find boiler broken, so no heat or hot water since. The shower is electric, though. Was sleeping in the lounge by the electric fire, until it packed up yesterday!!!! I must have sounded like Victor Meldrew, with a few extra expletives added, LOL!

Many Thanks, 6d, but it has happened!! Woke up to a blizzard this morning. Together with neighbours, we spent 3 hrs this afternoon digging out our vehicles, which are now scattered in various clear-looking spots around town. Plumber hasn't replied to message, but he wouldn't have been able to get his van within a mile of my house today, anyway.I managed to get the last mobile, oil-filled heater in town, and trudge home with it, so feel like a millionaire, LOL!!!

Am going to have to make that 30-mile drive to Edinburgh to work, again, in the morning, and may well be staying there until Friday night, as I know it will take me 2hrs minimum. :-((

Me crew are 'appy, tho! School was closed all last week, but access had been made over the weekend. With up to another foot of snow overnight and today, though, got a call at 8.30am to say not to go. So, for them, another day "on the piste", lol!!!

Sorry I m too late David in the warning put it on this morning for you. Bet the children were pleased no school then hehe. I bet you felt like a millionaire getting the last oil heater, they are the best and cheapest to run, they take the chill off the air, on low too. Safe journey to you don't forget to take a blanket and shovel and warm drink or food just incase.

The crew were ectsatic, 6d!!! But, I forgive 'em. Can remember similar when I was their age! They are safely "home", and am having to "cuddle" me heater, alone - lol!!! Have blanket, sleeping bags, shovel, brush, de icer, anti-freeze, a week's supply of clothes and toiletries, 3 bags of grit in the boot, fully-charged mobile with emergency contacts stored, back-up in-car mobile charger, flask ready for filling with boiling water, for cofee, etc.!

The M8 is a disaster area, isn't it, Linda. thank Goodness you were able to accommodate her. People have been stuck, and sleeping in their cars on that road. lol David, never broke any limbs, we use to skid on the ice on our way to school also on the playground nice to see your back safe and sound, phew can I smell smelly socks lol. We seen the M8 pictures on the tv also all the grid lock up there terrible is nt it, they are now saying we the people should be gritting our own roads, so where s the grit I ask along with the reporter who asked the same question where is the grit then. Errrr, 6d, wasn't wearing socks, lol!!!!! Caught part of that programme. Guess what? For first time ever, a tractor deposited a grit pile at the end of my street at the weekend. I filled up 3 old compost bags to put in my car boot for use to get out of snowdrifts/ruts, and also to act as ballast to stop my car sliding about so much. No more grit until January? Sounds just like last Christmas/January this year. They say they learned lots from that, but now admitting they still weren't prepared/still learning more. It isn't "rocket science", is it? Seems, as always, that if the forecasted weather is going to fall on a weekend, it is too bad. No-one is going to be paid a bit of overtime to get the roads passable for Monday morning. A very false economy, methinks! Anyway, must get settled down alongside my heater, lol!!! Slightly warmer here now at -9, but freezing fog forecast to be thrown in for good measure for drive to work in the morning. Alarm set for 4.30am :-(((( Have a very good night! X

I don't blame you David getting the grit why not every man for him self now, hope you don't depend on you family allowance too much as heard last night on talk sport radio on the edge of broad casting they are reducing the family allowance right down to pay for the money they have borrowed to support Ireland. Its also on the cards to reduce dvla right down to under poverty level, taking the mobility away too. The Citizens rights have told the disabled not to panic, and wait to see what they actually do, the oaps now who have saved all their lives have to pay their own now too. I think the students of this country have far more back bone than all the whimps and selfish people that don't care nor suffer yet and they will as this will produce a knock effect. They are wanting people not to work so many hours, which means lack of pay but don't notice goverment taking a cut, nor did they refuse the rise as they got in which people don't know about. Love what they have done to support Wikileaks.

Lol!!! Was wearing socks, pre-heater, but they were frozen through. Had to carefully peel 'em off, then defrost me tootsies, before, of course, I put on pre-warmed bedsocks. There!!!!! Hope not to need socks for a Caribbean cruise, Tt, except for part of dress code for ye cap'n's dinner?

Was same story with grit/salt back in January here. All local supplies used up in a week or so, then had to wait weeks for "imports" to arrive. Not a lesson learned, I have to agree. :-((

Family Allowance, 6d? I don't get that, or any statutory benefit, but have read lots recently. Today, in a newspaper, was reading Ann Widdicombe's column. She was saying that her mail the other day included a large cheque from "Strictly Come Dancing", together with notice of the statutory OAP winter heating allowance and another £10 payment. of course, she, like many, and some folks I know who receive same automatically, and don't need it, are gobsmacked!!! The people I know give it to charity, so it will, hopefully, help more deserving folks. What should be done is to scrutinize this system of dispersal - sounds like a computer is dealing out the dosh? Examining things like this would seem more appropriate than hitting those who really need support, no?

Its discusting I m sure she has enough money, another one I know in the commons gets it too, they say they don't need it, so why claim it, why not tell them to stop sending it and it then could go back into the system and help those that do need it, why accept in the first place, I notice she does nt donate hers like your friends. I think that you missed the point, dear 6d. She did not ask for it, she was pointing out that it was automatically sent to her, because of her age, which shows up on data, somewhere. She most certainly did not claim for it, and never would, of course! Am sure that she could not have escaped declaring her latest "job", either! I am sure that she will donate it to a cause, as, once received, it cannot be re-dispersed. X
