This raccoon spent all day waiting by the shelter's side door. It was strange because usually raccoons are pretty aggressive, and this one didn't seem sick or anything, but was coming close to people and wanting attention. Nobody really paid him any mind, but later we thought we probably should catch him. He got into the building and was running through the hallways, much to the delight of shelter visitors. Well, he didn't like being caught, but he still wasn't at all aggressive. We think he may have been somebody's pet - this is abnormal raccoon behavior, and again, he didn't seem rabid, which would be the biggest concern with a raccoon. We will find a place for him to go, perhaps a sanctuary, because he probably wouldn't survive in the wild.

never seen one so close up ~ thanks laura for the picture, lovely creature, that long back foot looks like a hare or rabbit ~ can these jump too?
