I know, I agree with you Sticki!

These are a noisy extended family, I think. There are two male birds who are very feisty. The others just seem happy to find what seeds they can and huddle in the cedar tree.

They are a beautiful electric blue...send some over here Lori! Great picture!

These 'jays are birds of the forest, Tetra. It's too civilised over there! LOL...

Such a pity!

what lovely birds

I agree Jackie...but noisy, feisty and predatory. I'm hoping to get a photo of a cardinal..they are bright red...and if I could get a bluejay in the pic..wouldn't that be lovely?

To see a bluejay and cardinal together would be amazing, Lori! :-)

It's one of those things which is possible but unlikely, David. Though they are close in size, and have a crested head they are not related(beyond the fact that they are both birds, of course! lol) The Blue Jay is a member of the Corvidae family of birds..which includes the other jays, crows, rooks and ravens. Very smart birds, some say downright intelligent.
The Cardinal will tolerate the presence of jays, and will share the feeder with chickadees, nuthatches and jays, but is more reclusive. Of all the birds at my feeder I enjoy watching the jays the most. They are a riot!

are your jays noisy like ours lori?

Hi Sticki... yes they are very noisy and feisty!

i usually only see one at a time, he seems to be in command ~ dont know that many other birds are around at the same time, he is also quite big ~ so i hadnt realised he or she was fiesty! he always looks a bit aloof to me!

Perhaps if they are single or in a pair they are more subdued. I have a whole flock of the noisy critters...last count there were 15 around the feeder and suet block...body checking each other away from the suet...crests up...beeks agape, feathers fluffed. reminded me of a group of seventh graders at the mall.
