New fish!

Brill - do you know what it is called ?

We used to have a fish in our tank just like your black one, we called it popeye,lol.

We had two fish and called them Tom & Jerry!! Cm'on Lulu lets have a naming session!!! Maybe on a blog!

Well Gmage, I was thinking along the lines of Blackfishie & Mr Goldfish!!

the most beautiful of the carp is the comet...they have long gorgeous fins...but I love the moors and shubunkins too. Lots of different types available and they are tough little fish.

Sadly my black fish died. We have the goldfish, named Perry by my husband??! And I have 3 tiny minnows now.

Moors are very handsome fish but I've had one or two die on me. If you wish to build a collection I'd suggest getting three comets...you will love them, I guarantee, and they reproduce readily enough that you will have fish to sell back to the pet store! Because of the horribly cold winters I bought three "feeder fish" and I had 63 of them within two seasons...they are the regular carp with many different colours and markings...great for ponds..and not expensive.

Hi Lori, thanks for your advice! I bought 3 little minnows, it's all the coldwater fish they had, maybe not as interesting as Comets....or are they similar or the same lol!

hmmm...not sure Lulu...if they are carp they will be black or dark gray until they reach about six months old then they turn their regular colour...could be red, golden orange, white with black markings. Will have to post pics of my two other carp...called them the three musketeers, Porthos, Athos and Aramis...because they seemed to be all the same sex...no babies..then last summer they produced 14 little ones!! Porthos is pure white, Athos is pure red, and Aramis is white and golden orange!.. and one of them is batting for the other team!LOL...

Mine thrive in the tank all winter..but yes these are pond fish. If you are looking for aq. fish they are lovely too, as they are stronger fish and will withstand any water problems better than others. When I lived in the city the water was treated with Chloramine which is a "more stable" form of Chlorine...(it doesn't dissipate if the water sits for any length of time) so the old method of letting tap water sit for 24hours to let the chlorine dissipate before putting it in your tank doesn't work. It remains in the water for days and it makes the fishes waste turn to amonia and that's not good for the fish. Now my water comes directly from a drilled well, direct from the aquifer...no water treatment chemicals and the fish enjoy great water.
