Thank you for your comments. Heavy frost last night, and I was SO relieved that the buds on my Amelanchier survived . . . looking forward to the blossom in three or four weeks time!

Tap water! :) Your comment about pics through windows and doors is so interesting . . . I've always liked PAINTINGS of scenes through doors or windows, but never thought of the same idea for a photo (I'm not good at photography, and obviously not a lateral thinker!).

would it be true to say that lateral and logical dont necessarily go together?
i am a bit of a lateral thinker ~ but im even better at going off the point!! not entirely logical!!!
have you got fields all round you?

Before moving here, we lived in a cottage with fields all around, and an orchard at the back - you couldn't see another house! So one reason for choosing this present house was the field at the back: then, it was a school playing field, but we could use it when the children weren't out there, so we did, and it was great when the boys were younger. Since the school closed, building has been threatened, but nothing's happened, so fingers crossed so far.

(I don't know the answer to logical/lateral, but I'm very good at going off the point too, Sticki!)

we used to live next to the school and it was lovely when the boys were little ~ have even been known to pop them over the wall to go to school. the little one used to climb over onto the field and play with the children if i wasnt looking.
now we have woods behind ~ i do like my space ~ we have been very lucky ~ always lived on the outskirts of a town or in a village but have had a field next to us of some sort in each house.

That sounds good. Hopefully a peaceful garden too, like ours.

well it would be, if you can block out the sounds of the cars on the main road at the front of the house.!
