My garden

My garden

This is my garden a few weeks ago on a frosty morning. The sun looks great on the Cornus on the right near the back.

You've used your space well...bet you are looking forward to everything springing into life once again....I did read in your profile that you love the gardening season, spring through summer....have you any new plans for it this year?

Everything is springing into life and I have been out today tidying and pulling up weeds so I'll be ready to sow and plant when it warms up a bit.
We hope to build a pergola this year. Last year I bought a grapevine ( which has died over the winter but, no matter, I will go and buy another. It was probably too cold in it's pot). Down near the shed at the bottom of the photo we have a very small paved area which is very boring but does get some sun and late shade which is welcome. I would like a pergola with the grapevine on it so watch this space...
Apart from that - lots of flowers and things to eat.

Your pergola plan sounds very nice...I'll be watching :)

Paul now says he wants to relay the slabs. You know how one job leads to another. They are uneven and ridged so maybe it's a good idea.
I had a look at your photos and saw all the work you have to do. Take heart from the fact that when we moved here it was 'rough pasture'. (Paul's description). We have gradually worked away at it, learning as we go and it gets better every year.

I like the way you have meandering paths around the beds, it encourages one to want to go further and investigate......

Looks lovely, and a pond too! Yes, I can see that lovely cornus. I've just pruned my green ones back for next year. I shoved the prunings into the ground just so I can keep enjoying them for a little while longer!

I have to give credit for the meandering paths to Paul who has a good eye for design. We dig up a bit more grass every year now the children are older and don't need it so much. I'm not sure which bit we will dig up this year but of course it makes room for MORE PLANTS!

What a lovely garden, I think you have a great balance between flower beds and lawn. I bet it looks stunning in the summer months.
