Hello Paul! No, it's actually a grass, Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola' It's a great wee article, loves a well drained sunny position, and comes back after being frozen solid! As far as I'm concerned, it has no problems!

Ah ha!! I knew you would Paul! The other taller one is Miscanthus Zebrinus, one of the oatgrasses, it has yellow horizontal stripes across the blade of the leaf, it makes it look a bit like a barber shop's pole! Really pretty, I think, but I know it's not to everyone's taste, I think it suits where it is, and the colours blend in well together.

Yes I know the grass - we bought some - but it has not grown for us - I love it a lot as all grasses - miscanthus is prob the best as it lasts through winters - I have a red one which is so lovely too
