I'm hoping I can grow this. checking it out closely. How long does it take for the variegation to be prominent?

I love this, it's so unusual Amy, do the leaves have any Autumn colour? Really very pretty.......

I have one in the shade and one in the sun 6p they seem to be happy in either , the leaves change colour after the first year Lori .. the leaves stay like this most of the year Janey they might fade a bit .. you need to prune it because they do get very big ...

thanks Amy. I'm going to shop for it.

can you grow it in a tub or does it have to climb up something.... as id love one...

Amy I grow Actinidia Pilosula,it Has possibly less pink than yours show.It is deciduous and has masses of pink flowers similar to lily of the valley, the buds are forming now, does your variety flower the same. I believe there are male and female forms have never seen seed so assume its male or needs another to pollinate it.

It needs a lot of room Holly it's best grown and supported up a wall it will be several feet wide and high , I honestly don't think a tub would be enough for it ...
Bjs mine has masses of flowers it's funny that you should say they are like Lily of the Valley because that's exactly what I thought, they tend to be hiding behind the leaves although you can just see one or two on this pic. I've looked it up and it does say male and female on seperate plants, I didn't know that ! also that cats are attracted to it, no wonder I find the local cats asleep under it ....lol I'm off out in the dark with my torch to see if my other one has flowers ....I'm back ...yes it has ! the flowers on both of mine are white .... I take cuttings later on and have had several successes .. :-)

Amy
I have a picture of mine shown on blog = (and so to summer 9-5-2010) it looks as though the flower colour may be one of the main differences between the two varieties.
7 May, 2011
Thanks Bjs , I've been to have a look - there is a definite difference isn't there ! my flowers are white yours pink also I think your leaves are narrower..
I absolutly love the Orchis Foliosa did you buy it ? I have one Marsh Orchid in the grass near my Apple trees I thought I had lost it this winter but I can see it coming through at last ....

Wow, I cant wait until mine looks like this Amy, its doing really well and John is going to take a slab up for me so it can go in the ground.
7 May, 2011
Amy,I have a number of them but with me they have good years and bad ,I have seen them growing in big clumps in other peoples gardens but they wont do it for me, instead they grow in large pots.
If you look for one try and buy it looking healthy they do not travel well mail order.
7 May, 2011
John is good Dawn, It dosn't take long to grow, yours will grow much quicker once it's in the ground.
I have written the name down in my wish list book Bjs, Thank for the info :-)
8 May, 2011
He is good Amy, its just the problem of not having enough time, as per usual. did you get much rain :-)
8 May, 2011

Oh no Amy, sounds like your big tank hasnt had chance to fill up. It shouldnt be like this at this time of year, what you expect in August, not the start of May.
