Oooohh, yes!

My friend buys at least one beautiful Iris every year. I was admiring some perfect white ones in her garden this week. She lent me her catalogue - what gorgeous Irises there are, but OH! what a price! :-O

This is fabulous..looks better in your garden than in the catalogue Spritz.
Pricey? tell me about it. I have blown one day of plant sales on 14 new irises for this year.

Lovely.......Tetra and you talk about me lol!!!!!

I know, I know! Its a bit like a diet, you are good for a whole week, then go on a chocolate binge. And I dont even have the excuse of a world famous garden like you!!
Did you ever hear any more back from Japan? Did you get the video with english voiceover?

Stunning and such gorgeous colours!

Thanks, Pp. :-)

Tetra - you're as bad as me on the quiet, aren't you! You obviously have 'that' catalogue. I'm steering clear, or I'd be tempted, too. :-/

I bought a fair few from them last year, but stayed with a great plantsman in UK this year. Prices more reasonable and he had some from "that" catalogue too!
You have an excuse Spritz you have a large garden...mine is crammed to the gunnels! My neighbours garden is a mess..he's a nice bloke but not much idea, unlike his father (who lived there previously)..Im sorely tempted, but really shouldnt take on more. Ken already dug over both sides for him..one side has been turfed but the other..well you wouldnt know it had been dug clean of weeds..it makes me itch...

I really can't fit any more Irises in. I'd have to take something else out to do it! If they flowered on and on, I might be tempted, but they seem to be over so fast.

ooh, that is especially lovely, what colours together...a real show off Barbara!....:o)

17 May, 2011

She is indeed, Janey! Three more buds to come, too. :-)

I prefer the re-blooming Iris myself, Spritz. Don't know which ones would do best in your area, though.

18 May, 2011

I don't know about re-blooming ones, Tug. Which would they be?

20 May, 2011

There are two basic types. One kind will put up a series of successive flowering stems from several of the mature rhizomes in the clump, resulting in a very long blooming season, though with somewhat fewer stems blooming at a time. 'Summer Olympics' and 'Earl of Essex' will do this. The other type has a second bloom season in the fall--sometimes cut off by heavy frost, though they will often take light frost. 'Autumn Circus' and 'Pagan Dance' will do that. A few, such as 'Hemstitched', seem to show both behaviors, and are (inaccurately) called "everblooming". At present, most re-blooming Iris are fairly sensitive to climate patterns, re-blooming in some climates, and not in others. I suspect that once breeders have some varieties that re-bloom consistently in a range of climates, we will see more Bearded Iris in the ordinary landscape, not just in the yards of us plant freaks! Try "www.rebloomingiris.com". Why it's not a ".org", I don't know: it's an arm of the American Iris Society.

Thanks, Tug - I'll have to do some googling, I think.

Hi Spritz, I wonder if this is the same iris as the one which I have just uploaded? I planted some last year and this is the first time any of them have bloomed. Cant remember where I bought them unfortunately and I seem to have lost the label :( must do better...)

I'll take a look, R'smum. :-)
