Church flower festival

Church flower festival

This was my favourite entry in this years show. The theme was 'Memories of school days' and I thought this showed real imagination. I hated domestic science when I was at school!

What a good idea not to do any cooking I'll start filling my kitchen bits tomorrow and say they are out of use for the time being :o)

So did I Gee. Always marked bottom. You seem to have have overcome this 'handicap' very well indeed and I am still no good at baking. We didn't call it HE then it was cookery class. HE went out of the window too. I used to work with a very good HE teacher, who despaired of her girls ever getting the message about avoiding pregnancy. Our classes were very explicit and that was ages ago. The first microwave was stolen soon after it was plugged in!

Good heaven, Dorjac, I don't think microwaves had been invented when I was at school :) I remember one lesson we had to stand rolling an egg in boiling water so that the yolk ended up in the centre!

did it work with the egg then, sounds a bit daft to me, hang on a minute, if you boil an egg the yolk is always in the middle, are you winding us up here Gee,

We used to do 3 talks a year, together, one per term Gee. Me as a midwife and HE teacher to try and get the girls to realise that pregnancy and babies are not for teenagers at school. Didn't always work very well! The microwave was just taking off and someone fancied it.....long time ago. They were expensive then. The door was forced and no microwave. Nothing ever stolen before that.

No wind up, Yorkshire, the idea was that when the egg was cut it would be perfectly central and look nice in a salad - I thought it was daft then and still do :) I was a bit of a rebel at school and the poor teacher probably dreaded me walking into the classroom. You were brave to tackle that subject, Dorjac - it certainly wasn't a subject ever raised in my school!

When I was in school, the only electical thing we had was an electric cooker. The rest of the cookers were gas. I'll have to try doing that to my eggs next time we have salad, Lol.

We never had cooking at our school, which I would have loved, I think the nuns thought we would all end up with staff, we had needlwork (which I hated and still do) and we had to walk around with books on our heads (deportment) lol never helped me......
