This large Agave (and many more) was growing quite happily outdoors in the Jungle at the Heligan gardens.

That's the Scilly isles isn't it?
Talking about that next year (means I won't be lumbered with the driving).

You wont be disappointed :)

Is it sark where there are no cars?
25 Jun, 2011
It's that or Chile - I've never been to South America.
25 Jun, 2011
Didn't andrewr do a very interesting blog on south America?
25 Jun, 2011
I believe that he did......
That's very much dependant upon my brother being able to pay me back though - Sue off to the far east with her mate shopping and stuff, me to Chile.

But if there is not enough money then chille con Carne instead? Failing that I believe there is a chilli farm in Devon. ??
25 Jun, 2011
It's all in the hands of the judge Sticki!
Failing that, I'll always have my Chilean plants instead - the Bomereas are germinating well!
How strange you bringing chillies up - I'm just cooking Chilli con Carne for dinner tomorrow!

Ooooh that's very nice. I bought hot chillies grown at the south Devon farm for a friend who likes things hot - he said he had never been assaulted by a Christmas present before!

My next door neighbour has a Tandoori delivery business - when we order I always get something extra. One night there was a tub of vegetable pakoras in as the extra. Verty nice until I bit into the pakora that contained a whole Naga chilli!!!

Explosive! Bet that was a memorable meal!
25 Jun, 2011
Good job that I found it and not Sue!!
25 Jun, 2011
Glad I didn't find it too! Did you eat the whole thing before you realised?
25 Jun, 2011
Nope, but I ate it on principle!!
25 Jun, 2011
And you survived to tell the tale!
26 Jun, 2011
I can do hot, I just prefer a little warning!
26 Jun, 2011
Good point.
Have you ever drunk a cup of tea when you were expecting coffee? It's very confusing.

Meanie:
Great photo! This Agave grows wild here...many are in full bloom right.
27 Jun, 2011
A little underexposed, but hey ho.
There are babies springing up all around them.

Meanie:
It looks great! This plant is almost at blooming size.
Yes, this plant develops hundreds of babies. This is the reason why this plant grows wild here in the canyons and on the sides of the mesas.

I have a similar plant, it doesn't curve out in that lovely shape like this does, it has spiky tips - which I don't like - and the same type of 'leaf' it is a variegated one - sorry meanie- but it produces loads of babies, grows in a dry sheltered spot near the house.
27 Jun, 2011
Aaarghhhh - variegated!
27 Jun, 2011
I did apologise! I didn't plant it - I don't like it's spiky leaves. Don't suppose you want it either!!
27 Jun, 2011
No chance!!
27 Jun, 2011
Could try it in a curry!
27 Jun, 2011
If I knew that it wasn't poisonous I would!!
My big secret has been revealed by the way - just posted the photo!
27 Jun, 2011
Aha! Thank you - that was quick! I'm off to look.
