No it's not a mirage!

No it's not a mirage!

Greenhouse is in the last stages...just the bracing on the interior and it's done. Have benches and potting table to make....it's quite hot during the height of the summer day. But next spring it will be warm and full of plants!

Thanks Sticki and Ydd...I'm so happy to finally have that off the list! lol...working on the pond and when I finally have that done I'm taking a holiday!!!

Oh Wow Lori ! great excitement ,what a smart floor you have in it ~ it will be full of plants before you know it a perfect place to potter on those wet days

it can serve as a sauna at present Sticki...we are having a bit of heat at the present. Our weather is weird and it keeps getting weirder...lol. lots of wind and big marshmallow clouds...and before you know it it's raining...then in two minutes it's clear and sticky humid again! But, yes...a holiday in the greenhouse...or beside the pond sounds a lovely idea.
Thanks Amy...I made a platform of 6x6 treated spruce with 3/4 inch think plywood sheeting (also treated)...hopefully it will last as long as the greenhouse does! I'm really looking forward to next spring. I can work in the shed to construct the benches and shelves now that I have the greenhouse boxes out of there!

At last! What a sight for sore eyes Lori..bet you are glad that one is off your list! Its looking good..cant wait to see the pond..I bet next year it will all look "part of the landscape" and the scars will have disappeared. I am soo impressed with your abilities!!

LOL...thanks Tet! At present we are in the midst of a heatwave. Things bake all day in the high 80's to low 90's F. at least our night time temps are in a comfortable range for sleeping. From what I heard today of a long range forecast this heat is supposed to continue all month...and August is usually our hottest month...oh no! I time my outdoor work for the early hours or the evening hours.

Whey hey! at last, we see the greenhouse in full glory! Well done.....exciting for you to be making this garden from scratch!

26 Jul, 2011

Thanks Karen...I won't pretend that I wasn't stressed by this kit...but after I realized that it was engineered to go together I stopped stressing and just went with the flow...everything is premeasured, and sized..and all the correct fasteners are supplied ..so all I really needed was a little help from my OH when working on the roof. Went out one day and decided...enough of this...it gets done today! I finished at about 9:30 pm in the gathering darkness! It's too hot to use it now! but next spring wooo hooo...!

26 Jul, 2011

Lori....what a great accomplishment! It looks so good and I'm certain you'll be putting your greenhouse to good use in no time.

We've got nice sunshine the last couple of days but nowhere near the high temps you are experiencing....I know I wouldn't cope in that kind of heat! Instant sauna for sure in your greenhouse :)

Looking forward to your next project....the pond. And yes, a holiday/break is well deserved....iced tea and some shade may just work :)

27 Jul, 2011

Perhaps you could have a huge 'awning' over it in the summer months Lori....It's either that or the dreaded 'shading paint' that gets used a lot here....well, not HERE as we don't need it!!!! but in Englandshire they use it a lot I believe!!...or you could just plant some lovely small trees around it to give it some shade and frost protection too!

27 Jul, 2011

I have a very large tarpaulin...it's blue on top and silver on the reverse. Will have to give some thought to the awning idea...thanks Karen!

31 Jul, 2011

lol.....go for it Lori! :))

I expect by now Lori all is up and running with the Greenhouse....good idea with the flooring, as you are going to stand a lot in there, so it will be kinder on the feet...Maybe a few shade giving trees in the fall will help for the hot months next Summer, and add to the character tooo.

Yes the greenhouse is finally operational. Good suggestion about the trees or shrubs...still ruminating.
decided not to try the tarp it's doing ok as it is and our hot weather is gone by the middle of Sept, usually. Won't start any stuff until spring, as that will give me time to rethink some of my previously made planting schemes. Patience..they tell me...is a virtue!

21 Aug, 2011

:o))) and there's always lots of planning going on in between....

22 Aug, 2011

at last its up ..................GREAT lol , bet u carnt wait to fill it !!!

25 Aug, 2011

Crissue: Plans change so many times between the concept and the finished garden...that I sometimes think I garden by sheer adventure! I think it's called serendipity...and I love pop ups...that's the best part...self seeders and pop ups. so why swot it? lol....
Hi Cristina...I'm pretty chuffed... Except for a little help with the roof I did it all by myself!! Had to get hubby to support the rafters as I attached the fasteners! Pretty good kit...if an old codger like me can do it!

25 Aug, 2011

They do change, for us all I think...and I don't think anything ever finishes....:))) we're always adding and changing...
Good work on the Greenhouse...us Old Codgers surprise even ourselves sometimes....lol...:)))

at last its up and ready for winter.....it looks great Lori..you will get a lot in there...:-)

22 Sep, 2011

LoL...Sandra...I was fussing a lot when I put it together..with bad weather and bugs it seemed like Mission Impossible..You know, I think I could fill it three times over! Oh well will worry about shoehorning all the trays in next spring! (this is one piece of procrastination I can get away with...for now.) ;-)

Wonderful Lori. What a great starter to grow the new garden!

4 Oct, 2011

it will be a piece of heaven when you are waiting for the thaw in spring. i love being in my tunnel on a frosty morning...have you decided how you going to keep the snow levels down on the roof?

5 Oct, 2011

It's been a dream of mine for many years, Gt...great to finally have it up and waiting for the spring.

Sandra: The smell of a greenhouse is the most delicious aroma...moist soil and photosynthesis...mmmmm. The roof is very slippery polycarbonate and I'm reasonably sure I wont have much accumulation up there...but I have a snow rake! it's like a snow pusher that's inverted with a very long handle (super light aluminium) that I use for the house...so should worse come to the worst...we're prepared!

7 Oct, 2011

sounds like you have it covered Lori..:-)

whats going in it first?

i have been filling up my greenhouse today with the aeoniums. the tunnel is still full of tomatoes but im filling in the gaps with my babies before the frost gets here....

7 Oct, 2011

Lori hasn't the time gone round quick...that greenhouse will be full and busy before you know what...:)))

7 Oct, 2011

Sandra: it will be too cold over the most of the winter to have anything much in there...but come the lengthening days in March I plan to employ a little ceramic heater and start out with early veggies...lettuces and peas. As well as starting the perennial herbs and flowers from seed. will have to see how it is at that time...being the first year here I have only last spring for comparison, and it was late and cold...sleet and snow in late April! We had a terrible spring...hoping for better things to come.
Crissue: The race of time is even more noticeable as our expected days grow ever shorter. The greatest sadness of ageing is having the accumulated knowledge of 60 plus years with only a few years left to use them! It's the way of life...so must find something to enjoy in every day as it comes. That's why I garden. Can't wish the winter away ...but... hurry spring.

9 Oct, 2011

I know what you mean Lori...Just a little tale...Not too long ago, I would never have thought , that I would be here, let alone being active in my garden again...So now that I have a new lease of life, I just live it, don't worry about how long for...It's a number...When I'm told it's your age, I say rubbish...I got more get up and go than the average 30 something...lol...x I hope to be helping OH with the decorating in house during winter, and yes look forward to Spring too....

9 Oct, 2011

Thanks for the "tale", Crissue. Good for you, too. I find that since my days aren't dictated I have much more energy to tackle things that I wouldn't even have thought of doing in my 30's. I hope to take on the kitchen this winter... floors to do and cupboards and shelves to make... and time will fly, I know. :-)

9 Oct, 2011

Atta Girl....:))))

10 Oct, 2011

heee heee "girl"....love it. I haven't been a 'girl' for a very long time.
