Dahlia 'Vancouver'

I nearly bought this one last Spring...lovely, wish i had now....

I like it too, even though it was supposed to be purple, according to the package! I must make sure I dig up the tubers and keep them over winter.

very nice..did you start from seed or buy the tubers/plant?

I buy tubers...this one was new this year. :-)

My kind of colour....

The flower head is getting bigger...and bigger...and with the wind we've got here, I'll be surprised if it survives. :-(

Gorgeous! I haven't any this year and the ones I tried to save last year went rotten.

What a shame - I've grown more this year, and was very surprised that two I left in the ground came up again!

I never lift mine Spritz...I cut them down, cover with the old stems, then straw on top and a stone to hold in place...an old boy gave me this tip many moons ago...works for me...

Maybe I'll try that for some of them - but I had some advice as to how to get Dahlias in flower for my open days, which meant they had to be potted up.

You have open days, clever you...Did you ever read the article in one of the UK newspapers about the gentleman that grows hundreds of Dahlias, and bred his own too...He opens to the public...I'll try and find it google for you, but if there is a pic I won't be able to upload it to here I don't think...

No, I haven't come across him. I wouldn't want to stick to only one type of flower in my garden, and I find Dahlias are a bit too high maintenance to grow many. Nice to look at, though! ;-)
