The New Path

Now finished...looking from the veg Plot...lots of growing space created...and the Honeysuckle has now started to grab hold of the Arch...smells delicious from that end..We have scented Sweet Peas coming along too and two Clematis on the other side, with an ordered Pink Armandii to join them...due to arrive on Monday...

It looks wonderful, Sue - well done! :)))
What's your weather like today? - it's chucking it down here!

17 Jul, 2011

Thankyou all... :))

Well this our second day of Rain...it's been steady light showers but penetrating into the nooks and crannies...Its the wind that getting a bit naughty...and it's forecast for part of next week too...I bet you're glad to see it too Karen...
It's funny we weren't going to make the path through to the veg Plot...we have an entrance, and H didn't think there was room... :)))) oh ye of little faith, anythings do-able..glad we did..The Armandii being an evergreen will cover the right side of the arch..and the honeysuckle is evergreen anyway, once covered will give all year round interest...and Clem flowers at different times...

Yes, it's our second day too - light rain all day yesterday and today, torrential showers and sun with nasty roof leaks :(...but just been to visit stepdaughter 10kms away - and they've had none!!!

I've never seen a pink armandii, Sue - is it fragrant and do you know what it's called?

17 Jul, 2011

Hi Karen....
The Pink Armandii is called Apple Blossom...and is fragrant...
The other two are Armandii White
-Fragrant...
and Crystal Fountain...Fragrant...
The White and Crystal Fountain are for the Willow Trellis H built...CF flowering from June/JUly onwards...

info@taylorsclematis.co.uk"

this is where I got them...and their Clems are two years old...They've just finished showing at hampton Court Flower Show...nice people...

How strange! I've got 4 armandii, all labelled Apple Blossom, all white and not especially fragrant! Had another one in my old garden, also Apple Bossom - larger white flowers, very fragrant!

If you don't mind - I'll ask you about all the places you get your plants next spring...am not sure that I'll be planting that much more this year....:(

17 Jul, 2011

How bizzare, I hope I'm not disappointed then...lol

17 Jul, 2011

I got all of mine from the same nursery, but at different times...perhaps it has something to do with the soil??? The first one was quite spectacular, which is why I went back for more!

17 Jul, 2011

I suppose that's possible...What I liked about Taylors is all their Clematis are two years old before they sell, and have flowered in their first year...Have a look at their site, you don't have to buy, it's just as a comparison...

My type of garden,lovely.

17 Jul, 2011

Can you save that info 'til next year, Sue...I will ask again......!
...just too much to deal with right now.......:/

I used to have an apple blossom and it did have a tinge of pink in bud but it was basically white. Mine had a good scent though. Good thing is it will soon cover that side of the arch Crissue and you'll soon have the whole arch covered with it, it's extremely vigorous....15-25 feet. If you have a look at Mossy's photos, you can see that he has pruned and trained his Armandii over an arch and it looks fab, but it will take some doing because it is such a fast grower....so be sure that's where you want it before you plant it there, especially in your warmer climate......it's a beautiful plant and the scent is great and of course, the leaves are evergreen which is a huge bonus! If you wanted a smaller evergreen you could go for one of the New Zealand types...Avalanche for example...very pretty and not so huge, but big enough to do one side of your arch no problem.

Karen, did you have a good time with the baby in Dundee? Haven't spoken to you since your visit! :))

By the way, both of you, we have had rain most of the time for over a month now!! :((((((((((( lol x

Another great job Crissue :)
If I can add my t'pence worth about Taylors clematis.
I bought 2 from their stall at gardening scotland at the beginning of June and I have not been disappointed. One hasn't stopped flowering and the other produced more flowers after I accidently snipped it. Plants very healthy and show no sign of wilt.

17 Jul, 2011

I get nearly all mine from there too! In fact I think I have most of their catalogue...lol...not quite!

17 Jul, 2011

Im looking at Taylors now, what a great site, so much to see, i need a new clem lol...
your path looks great Crissue and your climbers will be gorgeous, I have an armandii but, its in a pot and i think the last winter held it back so no flowers this spring :( But theres allways next spring :)

KarenSusan...am so glad to hear that it's not just me, with the 'pink/ white' thing...but...who cares?, 'cos they're lovely always...:)))

...I did have a really lovely visit with my daughter in Dundee...she decided to return after secondary school in France...(I wasn't exactly happy...)to start a course of study...which didn't happen.........
...all I can I say is, she missed being a teenage mum by 5 days.....
...C'est la vie, as they say......, and Ruaridh (pronounced 'o' as in Rory) is lovely......
.....but, I don't like all these names that start with, 'Gr'....!!! ............help!

17 Jul, 2011

Looks fab! Well done! :)

17 Jul, 2011

A beautiful Scottish name Karenfrance :)

17 Jul, 2011

Don't worry Karen, we won't call you Gr...anything if you don't like it! Sounds like your daughter has been living life 'to the full' then! Ah well, life is never as we think it 'should' be is it? As long as they are all healthy......

18 Jul, 2011

:)))

18 Jul, 2011

I might call her Gr...tease her...lol...she's as proud as punch, and quite right too... :)))

Glad that Taylors is popular...I shall be shopping there again for sure...I'm still waiting for my delivery today...can't wait i'm on tenter hooks... lol...

When we went foraging again we found the last big stones for the path, glad H was with me I couldn't lift them...and he manouvered them into place while I delegated, so half the credit lol....

Thanks for all your input...

18 Jul, 2011

The back is 45ft x 17ft....and the side garden is 33ft x 14ft....its L shaped around our Bungalow...
Glad you like it... :))

18 Jul, 2011

Well done!

19 Jul, 2011

Thanks Katarina...made a difference I didn't think it would....:)))

19 Jul, 2011

That area is looking good ...
lots of potential with your new climbers :o)

23 Jul, 2011

Thanks TT...I am pleased with it...true as you say lots of potential...The Honey suckle went all along that area, to give shade to our Chickens...It was cut back so hard I didn't expect it to bounce back as quickly as it did, but it's back in flower and smells gorgeous...I think maybe it was glad of a good hair cut day....:)))

24 Jul, 2011

what a lovely busy looking garden you must feel really proud of it :)

24 Jul, 2011

Thanks Davy...Have to try and create as much interest as possible, its an L shape...and yes I am quite proud of it, it's only three years old...so maturity should make it even better...

By the way I looked at the label that came with the Apple Bloosom Armandii...and it says Pinky/White...so that's what it will be I suppose...
