The Cirsium Rivulare Atropurpureum that I planted this year have been lovely. I am cutting down on herbaceous plants but will definitely be keeping those, and this is a beauty, it would be even nicer as it is so bright! Lovely!

It's a perennial, but I had a different C. japonicum and it didn't make it through the winter. :-((((( Fingers crossed!

The C. rivulare do come back year after year, though.

I haven't tried collecting seeds from them - I wonder if they'd be easy to grow?

Mine seems to be a bit top-heavy on foliage and light on flowers.

lol Spritz.....When we've revamped our Pond next year I wouldn't mind one at the back...considering their size, but definitely bright Red.....they're quite happy in damp soil....

I was looking at a seedhead I left on the C. rivulare - I think I might collect the seeds and try growing them. I do like the form of these plants. :-)

Yes the C rivulare would be my choice I think for where I want it to grow...Why not try, nothing lost, lots to gain...:o))

I shall harvest the seeds today, and sow them. :-D

:o)))

I did it - I was a bit disappointed in the lack of viable seeds in two of the seedheads, but the other two seemed fine, so I'll wait and see if they germinate now.
