No Marshmallow, I didn't cut it down. I still have the old seedpods on the plant but the new stem shoots have come up out of the centre of them. I don't know if that's the right thing to do, though... :)

nice yellow on that one, :-))

This is lovely...Hardy?
19 Aug, 2011
I bought it last year, then I saw it growing in the wild in Africa in March...so it inspired the front garden!!
It is a lovely shade of yellow, W...
...and I think it's hardy, Scottish...it made it through last winter, anyway! :))

beauty! :)

It looks fantastic when it all flowers at once, Pixi! The stems and new flowers grow up through the middles of the previous ones...kind of strange and beautiful...

Mine is hardy, I've had it for a few years. I don't think it is right or wrong to cut it down. The seed heads are lovely so I leave them and I expect birds and insects enjoy the seeds.

I completely agree, M! :)
20 Aug, 2011
Wow sounds lovely! :)

Lots of my plants are just fillers, Pixi. They were what was available at the time and I had a lot of space to fill...but, this one is one of my favourites!
21 Aug, 2011
Know what you mean! I noticed you had to get a wee beastie on it too! lol :)
21 Aug, 2011
Completely accidental!!
21 Aug, 2011
Aye Aye! I think you put honey on your plants or something jsut to get a pic of them! lololol;)
21 Aug, 2011
Hmm...unfortunately, they're not all good though! :((
21 Aug, 2011
I know!
Oh I got a reply from gardeners world ..not much use they are I got more answers from everyone on here! Pfft!
I sprayed it all with garlic..so will wiat and see if new shoots are being affected or not..guess I will have to keep spraying it tho!
21 Aug, 2011
Well good luck with that, Pixi! :)))
You might try putting yoghurt cartons, stuffed with straw or something similar, upside down on canes near the hop, in case it's just earwigs......?
21 Aug, 2011
EW I hope not! I hate those things! Ewwwwwww Got one in my bed one night years ago and got such a fright! I;ve never jumped so quick in all my life!
21 Aug, 2011
If it is them, the upside down pots work...they crawl up and in to sleep during the day...then you can catch them and kill them...
21 Aug, 2011
Ok I;ll try it!
21 Aug, 2011
Best of Luck!!! :))))
21 Aug, 2011
got it set up..now we shall see!
THo I did notice a lot of webs..it wouldnt be some knid of spider? And just caught a teeny wee caterpillar on antoher plant!!! gah I'm over ridden with beasities! Ew!
21 Aug, 2011
Hm...I don't think that it would be a spider, Pixi...at least, I've never heard of any vegetarian ones! Unless it's a teenage rebel! lol!! :)))
If it is earwigs, I think they munch at night and crawl up into the pots during the day... and then you should find them!
Best of luck! I sort of hope that's what it is because then, at least you know what it is and can do something about it... :))))
21 Aug, 2011
Lol@teenage rebel! Nothing yet!
22 Aug, 2011
Oh dear, Pixi...maybe try again in the afternoon? Fingers crossed you'll catch something!
Am off this morning to catch the rat in my utility room ceiling....urgh!!!
22 Aug, 2011
Only thing I'll catch here is the cold..chilly weather today! :(
Ew a rat! I never did find that mouse in here..mayeb it managed to get outside..coz Suki never usually eats them! Either that or its living in my couch!
22 Aug, 2011
Seriously overcast and seriously hot here, Pixi...wish it would rain to clear the air...phew!
I catch mice with white chocolate and traps...sorry not humane...don't want them living in my couch!!
The rat is now becoming very bold, since the dogs left...I had him trapped in a storm drain yesterday, with a dog bowl and a big rock...but he just pushed it away and ran up the wall!!! I was out of there, sharpish!!!
Been shopping this morning and he's about to become an ex-rat!!!!!
22 Aug, 2011
lol i really think Suki caught it, she had been sick outside and it looked like the remains of a mouse! Tho I found it strange she ate it..doesn't usually. She gets too well fed!
Man that's a smart rat you got there lol. Hope you got him!
22 Aug, 2011
Better that way though, Pixi. That way you don't have to dispose of the remains! HE gets it tomorrow!!!!
22 Aug, 2011
ooh watch oot Mr Rat! Yer furrit!
23 Aug, 2011
He certainly is!!!!!
23 Aug, 2011
I wrote this poem for someone I play Isketch with on here a fre years back..she had a mouse in her house lol
mUst be read in a Scottish accent lol ;)
THE MOOSE
There’s a moose loose aboot ma hoose,
A couldnae bloody fund it..
Only a goose.
Noo the goose wiz big ‘n fat ‘n braw,
But just at that it flew aff wi a craw.
The burdies flew up near burdie heaven
Where they ate some lunch tho twas only seven.
But from awa up there they saw ma moose!
A didnae even ken if it wiz still in ma hoose.
The craw it cried awa doon tae me,
The racket hurt ma heid!
“watch oot wifey fur that wee moose
is oot in yer garden eatin’ yer seed.
Weel! A wiz fair bilin’ so up a got
Took ma poker wiz nice ‘n hot,
A thocht A’ll get that wee buggar yet
Bit twas all in vain and ma feet wir wet.
A gied up, fair wabbit wiz I
Awa back tae ma bed fur a bit ‘o shut eye.
Then a’ o’ a’ sudden…I got sic a fleg!
A felt the wee buggar run up ma leg!
But noo A hae a secret weapon, and the moose..
He isnae smart.
So when it cralled ‘a the way up
A let oot a big smelly fart!
The goose and the craw said “whit a wee shame!”
A said “ bog aff ye twats or A’ll gie ye the same!”

'There's a rat in me utilityroom, what am a gonna do?'
......I did wake up in the night once and find a wee moose on the pillow, looking at me............
23 Aug, 2011
