Waited all summer for this opportunity!

The dominant female hummer came for a rest and a snack.

Well worth the wait!

Agreed, Scottish! This female feels confident enough to perch while she feeds...most often they swoop in like little rockets...hover for a few sips and zip off...I can't focus my camera that fast! Today I was lucky!

Lori:

How cute! I love hummingbirds. I have a lot around my plants...they usually drink the water when I water my plants. Here in San Diego we have many of the very bright fuchsia-colored or bright violet ones...I believe they're called the Anna Hummingbird. They love San Diego because in the winter we have so many tropical and subtropical trees which bloom (which is their food supply).

Hummingbird Heaven...D1. You are so lucky. I've seen pictures of the Annas and they are gorgeous. Wonderful exotic colours...from feeding on Delonix regia and Jacaranda? I'm thinking of trying to find some of the hardy trumpet vine to plant beside the deck. I'm making a Trellis/seat and need something to cover it quickly. Have plenty of Virginia Creeper..and believe it or not there's Wild clematis...Virgin's Bower growing by the stream...a combo of those three would be very interesting to the hummers, I think.

Lori:

Yes, I really love the hummingbirds! They especially love Bottlebrush flowers.
