sorry this is wrong way up! Snake berries...Actea Pachypoda common White Baneberry

Like little beads...:)))

we always called them snake berries when I was a kid and we were warned by our parents not to pick them. They do look like lovely white beads and it would be so tempting for a little girl to pick them to put them on a string! It is a lovely plant the leaves are fernlike and the flower is a delicate spathe of white froth...the berries are quite large compared to the flower from which they develop.

Ours here is bright red, really a beautiful thing, I think. But considerably dangerous as poisonous things go. I like this white, I hadn't seen it in that color before.

I have found a terrific site about the wildflowers of my particular county in Ontario...It's a gem. when the spring flowers started to emerge I was astounded by the number of different species...and all of them beautiful in their own way. had big plans, Gt...but decided it was wiser to take an inventory of what is here before trying to impose my imprint on the place...glad I did.
before I checked out the berries on the site above, I remembered childhood days and that little rule that things which are very pretty can sometimes harm you! best of ask before bringing a handful of these berries home to mom!

They do look as if you could thread them like beads Lori , I like the way these warnings are handed down from one generation to another , My grandsons are coming for a holiday next Saturday I must warn them to ,thanks for that info . :o)

Have a pic of the red berries too, Amy. (think it's entitled: Red Baneberry) They look delicious, don't they? On the pic of the red berries I added a comment from some research I did about how ingesting these berries will affect someone. This is good to know and pass on to the children but if you have a "contrary" child, be sure to stress the danger, and watch them ensure that they take the warning seriously.

Thanks Lori I will look for your ' Red Baneberry ' I 'd like to think our grandsons would be sensible as our son takes them on long country side walks studying plants / wild life etc. on the way and they have their own little garden plot on his allotment .

I'm sure your grandsons are sensible young men, Amy. Sounds like your son is educating them about the natural world...sometimes you just never know though. I planted some ricinis near the stream...and had a bit of a jolt when I realized that the neighbour's farm animals might come in contact with it...glad we have good fences! lol...

I've a wild red here in the new garden. I think they are just beautiful, right next to all my amanita mushrooms. lol. Poison for poison I guess. :-) I'm moving it in formally. I think they are wonderful, interesting.....of course, no children or grazing animals.

I had seen the Red Baneberry and commented on it previously Lori , I said then that they looked poisonous ,My instincts were right ! I have taken the seed heads out of my Ricinis plants leaving the lovely foliage I was worried they would seed all over the place which is not what I want ......

Can't wait to hear the details of the new place, Gt... Such beautiful plants...has to be a downside though. Too bad. Poison for poison..lol. I'm sure the wildlife thereabouts knows not to eat them...not like loco-weed.
That's a good idea, Amy. I don't have to worry here their seed would never live thro the cold winter...but in commodious Britain ~better to be safe than sorry. Have you seen Delonix1's posts about them? They are trees! Imagine?
