Leycesteria Formosa ( Flowering Nutmeg)

do they all have those berries? i have leycesteria but im not sure its formosa and i didnt know they were called flowering nutmeg. thats a lovely flower on yours.

As far as I know, Stickie, they are all the same ,and this is a baby of the main one, which I had for years until it died.Another one has just come up in its place, which is amazing as it wasat least 3 years ago when i lost it.

Mine looked like it had died but it survived that awful weather last year, hope it doesn't die they are such a pretty plant. I didn't know it was called that either Sticki. I only knew it was Himalayan Honeysuckle. Karen Sue has one that is a lighter colour than these, cannot remember its name. I managed to grow a cutting last year and that has produced a flower also this summer. Fingers crossed they survive the winter.

mine is the golden version like karen sue's i think olive, i like himalayan honeysuckle for a name too!!

Golden Lanterns I think is the name of mine. I have the green one as well, but I do prefer the yellow one tbh. Lovely plants aren't they, although they need room to 'express themelves'! Never heard the Nutmeg name either.

I think I got the name from the Garden News years ago, which is why I bought it.The last one I had got far too big so in a way I was pleased when it died and now the baby plant is growing in its place. I've not seen the yellow one, I will have to look out for that next year.Thanks for your comments.I'm surprised Olive that you didn't get any babies from yours.

I just took a cutting and stuck it in and it grew, much to my amazement, I never seem to be able to get cuttings to grow, but this one did. I might try a seed this year, none on it yet. Mine isn't as big as it was think that cold weather we had stunted its growth. Probably the reason that I do not get babies is that the ground is very dry where it is, I have to water it quite a lot during summer months Rose. I have put the cutting further out in the open to see if it fares better than the parent plant.

Oh , I'm looking forward to that Karensusan. Our ground is always dry Olive especially because of the wind ,trees and sandy soil, so as it has always done well here I assumed that it liked the dry conditions as it has thrived here. I also have another one which has popped up in another part of the garden , probably from the birds.

I like this shrub, Rose, I was asked to dig one up years ago for a lady as she would have nothing with berries on in her garden! No children to worry about eating them ... just didn't like berries ... very odd . . . . .

The common name in Berkshire where I got mine from is Pheasant berry. The pheasants like the berries. I love the tall drooping waxy stems. Even if it dies down over the winter it pops up again each year.
