Such lovely shapes!

Motty and Wagger thanks....will have to find a sheltered spot for it.

21 Oct, 2011

I'm sure you'll wrap it warm for Winter.

Dawn we are going to fleece the lot this time...... HB it is a lovely shape isn't it?

22 Oct, 2011

I'm going to experiment with fleece too Dotty, however, was caught out last week with frost and hydrangeas have black leaves already, before I got the fleece on.

That's a great plant! I like Pseudopanax species and their varieties. Many species from New Zealand and New Caledonia grow well here.

24 Oct, 2011

Thanks Delonix, hoping for a milder winter.....

I'm sure it'll do great for you! :>)

Have you ever grown any Oreopanax species? Oreopanax capitatus grows to be a very beautiful tree, here. It also grows pretty large.

25 Oct, 2011

No I have not Delonix is that a NZ plant? just looked it up a very attractive leaf, but, we already have over 23 trees in the garden, and if they all reach their full potential....heaven help us!!

25 Oct, 2011

Wow! 23 trees in the garden...that's a lot! :>)

Oreopanax capitatus is native to southern tropical Mexico. I just read it's a very tender tree, not tolerating cold temps. There's some really beautiful trees around San Diego.

26 Oct, 2011

San Diego must be a wonderful place to live in.....

26 Oct, 2011

Yes, I love living here! :>) It's only second best to my native Hawai'i.

27 Oct, 2011

I saw this and thought of Ginkgo biloba for some reason! ... Lovely foliage ... :o)

27 Oct, 2011

It reminds me of maidenhair fern also, it is the same colour of the Ginko leaves and I can see your reasoning there.

: o )

Dotty, please tell me if this has survived the cold winters ... and has it put on much growth? I have removed a Pyracantha today ... now need to hide the trellised fence and thought Cyril and possibly Pseudopanax sabre would work well.

17 Feb, 2014

Cyril is much slower than the other varieties that we have planted, they are all planted on a very sunny bank, which is quite free draining....have put some pics on for you...

Thanks Dotty ... I saw this at a GC recently and was almost tempted ... now I shall view the pics ... :o)

As long as your garden is sheltered, I do not see a problem
