lol lol lol.....I didn't have much time in the summer.....I just spent an hour on GOY, needed to catch up. I feel like I'm on vacation!!! Only go to the shops for a few hours a day now Tet.

I love this plant....I have three (from cutting). One I will keep as a trailing plant and the other two as climbers. When they are well established I will make new plants for my mom and friends.

I can well understand you liking it Alex, Im getting more and more tempted by tender plants. Lets see how I get my few thru this winter. If Im successful, I might do a few more. I can always pick Brian and Meanie's brains!

Does you Plumeria shed it's leaves during winter? Just curious.....your's is in a greenhouse right?

I have five big Plumeria seedlings and five small ones that have germinated this month. They grow so fast...I have them in my house now and they receive a lot of heat and sun. They just won't stop growing....;o)))

I didn't stop growing them deliberately. They died on me - I don't think I looked after them properly - other things to do at the time lol

Yes, they do look fantastic growing outside on cyclone fences and up in trees. I took a photo of a Hoya carnosa at the San Diego Zoo, today (Nov. 3, 2011). It had such a wonderful fragrance!

She was going to chuck out a plant she no longer wanted, well I took it and planted it in the garden.
When she saw my Hoya Bella plant she commented that it looked a lot like it but it was red!!!!
It would be fantastic if I have another type of Hoya and in my garden!!!!!

There's many species of Hoya. Hoya bella, australis, carnosa and few other are commonly grown here.

Here's my friends famous nursery in northern San Diego County. In the search are put Hoya. You'll see all the very interesting species of Hoya available here, there's several, even a few red ones.

I was looking at all the different Hoya's last night. I have a few I would really love to get my hands on.
I am going to my garden and digging one out and bringing it in the house. My mom had it growing under her veranda in the winter.....

Most Hoya species are hardy to freezing for a short period of time. Protracted freezes will usually kill them or just kill them to the ground, then they re-sprout. This happened to the established ones in parts of the San Francisco Bay Area in the worst freeze ever recorded, in late December of 1990.

The one in the garden should do ok then....I just got a little worried because I asked my mom where she had the plant during the winter months....under the veranda...kind of protected. I called her last night to get all the details....only lost a few leaves in the winter but that's about it.
We really don't get freezes often....every so many years or so.....and if.
It feels like it's going to be a real mild winter this year....but then again you never know what nature has in store.

I think yours will be very safe. I had friends who had Hoya carnosa growing along a fence. The leaves fell off in the freeze of 1990 (SF Bay Area), and the stems never froze to the ground (and it recovered quickly)...and the temp got down to 24ºF/-4ºC (which was pretty much unheard of).

I just had a quick look at Kartuz......He has nice selection of Hoya's.....

Yes, I posted some pics about a month ago, when I went there. I purchased a plant which I had wanted for a long time, Eranthemum pulchellum. It's a blue flowering winter blooming 6ft/2m shrub, which has beautiful leaves, also.
