One of my aunts suggested I give plants as gifts (that I made from seeds) for the holidays. Not a bad idea, we celebrate name-day's here.....we have a lot of name day's coming up.

Nope.....this one looks more like Passiflora edulis. I looked it up when I posted the pic.
I want to see if they are all the same flower. I have four planted in the garden.

I had to ask as they can be quite variable apparently.

I am being given seed for Passiflora aurantia I shall have a crack at it.

I have seedling growing in pots of Passiflora Temptation and.....an all red one...can't remember the name. I have the envelope in the shop still.

I had seeds for Passiflora aurantia as well. They didn't germinate for me. I might try again this winter.

Oh I found the name of the others that have germinated..
Passiflora RACEMOSA BUZIOS (not all red after all). Ordered the seeds beginning of summer I think. They are now a good 18inches in height.

Now after seeing this one today....I think I will wait to see the flowers first....then google them and then add the name.

Dont know about irises, but love the dendrobiums, the different coloured Daturas, that lovely lobelia vallida, leonotis and several others...

I have got my seeds just 5 of them and they are smaller than I was expecting, grateful non the less. Now Do you recommend sanding them it looks a bit fiddly ?

Pimpernel, I have three different types that have germinated really easy for me. I just sow them in the soil, water and cover with plastic film. I'm not sure if Passiflora aurantia need soaking in water??? Passiflora aurantia, well they were the ones that didn't germinate for me.

Pimpernel - this is a quote from the second link..........

"To improve germination, lightly sandpaper the seeds on one or both sides using fine sandpaper, then soak them in tepid water for 24 hours. Sow 2-5mm deep in peat or soil based seed compost. Temperature is probably the most important factor in germination, ideally at 20 degrees C (68F) for 16 hours and 30 degrees C (86F) for 8 hours each day. If this is not possible, then a constant temperature of 26 degrees C (79F) is advisable. Using this technique fresh seed germinates in two to four weeks and older seed in four to eight weeks, but 12 to 48 weeks is not exceptional."

It also says that seed that is anything but fresh may have less than a 2% success rate.

Thanks, I have a thermostatic propagator on the way...........48 weeks would be testing my patience a little,
but it will be interesting. I will follow your advice above.
