Yes, the stream has doubled in size, and some lanes are flooded. More to come, so the forecast says!

I do hope the stream goes down a bit before you get more rain and getting in and out will be very difficult if all the lanes flood. This has been a very strange year.

It certainly has. At least we can go up the hill into the village from where we are. The cottages nearer the ford get cut off. The stream's still quite high today, but not too bad. The ford's still passable. :-)

When we came for your open day I had to go through the ford very slowly even though it was quite low. we had come in not along your recommended route so it will be a long trek to the village for the folks in the cottages if that is in spate.

They can't get across the ford, so they're stuck! I wish I could post a photo in this thread to show you what it's like at its highest.

Yes, it really is that colour, too - the camera has caught it this time. :-)

That's good then! Unfortunately digital cameras don't very often do justice to the colours we naturally see with the naked eye! I often have to make some adjustments to my photos once I have them on my computer, they often look "flat" but I find if I increase the contrast a little they "stand out" a bit more.

I wouldn't know how, if it even has that facility, but some colours never come out right - such as deep purple and cerise.

I use Picasa 3 for putting names on photos & for making changes in the lighting.

I've heard other people mention Picasa, but I've never used it. :-(

It's a programme made by Google. I've been using it for a number of years now. It's free & you can make some changes to the colours in you photos as well as add titles like I do.

It will also store your photos online - I've 100s in dozens of albums! You can share them with other people or make them visible or not to the general public. You can choose to make them visible only to the people you specifically choose. You can even stop certain specific photos from unloading to an album online while allowing others to upload.

You can make collages using the programme from photos on your PC, you can also print them out if you like, any photos can be printed. You can email photos from within the programme, you can resize photos or eliminate from your HD if you want to.

It's not nearly as powerful as bought programmes like Paintshop, but if you aren't interested in more than a little tweaking or putting titles on your photos or adjusting the colour, then this could be a useful alternative.

Do a search for Picasa3 online & give it a try, you may become a covert! LOL!

I honestly have lots and lots to do in the garden still. It's been so mild that some plants have started flowering again! I spotted another Achillea and a Sisyrinchium with buds today, and my Tulbaghia has buds on it, too. I have Heleniums, Salvias, Parahebes, Anthemis, Salvias and Scabiosa out, as well as roses.

I need to spread mulch around after I've cut some of the plants back. The Lavatera is still flowering - but I must prune that half-back before any strong winds knock it for six.

Really, truly, not just an excuse. :-(

I didn't mean it that way :-D I REALLY meant that I USE it as an excuse! I've said to Gerry on numerous occasions that I'm just waiting for a rainy day to do something in the GH on the allotment! I didn't mean it to say that YOU were just making an excuse for not trying the programme out! Sorry if it sounded like that!

It's great to see you have so many plants in flower still! I've noticed that many plants in the gardens around here still have lots of summer flowers open! The roses this year have done exceptionally well this year - they have been flowering practically non-stop since April! Yes, I really do mean April, at least in this neck of the woods! They are still flowering now & not mere stragglers but proper flowers on the bushes that you would have expected to see months ago not in the middle of Nov ember!

It's amazing, isn't it. It felt like a September day today - apart from all the fallen leaves, that is. :-(

It was hard cutting the Lavatera back when it was still flowering, but I had to do it in case the wind gets up. It's an ugly sight at the moment. I must do the Buddleias, too. I have a fiendish plan to remove one of them and plant a B. alternifolia there instead - I really like the look of those! :-)))
