This is the Hurdy Gourdie bird, a very rare species. It suddenly pops out of the egg when fully grown and has a wartlike appearance. When it reaches maturity it's feathers pop out from the warts and then it flies at night when there is a full moon to meet other Hurdy Gourdie birds to mate and so this rare species continues to thrive. You know when one is around by it's low booming call made from it's dark grey parrot like beak.

Linda you are so knowledgable about these rare birds, your years of studying have paid off ! it just so happens that the next full moon is this Thursday Nov.10th at 20.16 hours .. I will make sure that the Hurdy Gourdie youngster is allowed to fly free to join his fellow mates ! don't forget to listen to the booming calls on that evening ...
