I thought you might like to see the famous Fred Cotinus and his potmate Palace Purple Bert! This is specially for Pimpernel, who gave such good advice!

Blimey, Lil' P, that was quick! Were you sitting there on the computer, just waiting? Are you psychic?

Thanks, Tralamander. I thought eventually I might plant up some nice big tubs with these two and their babies (oh you know what I mean!) and add perennial geraniums and spring bulbs in shades of deep blue, plus maybe something modest with very pale pink summer flowers to stand out against this dark foliage - not sure quite what, yet - got to think about that one. It would give a bit of year-round interest up near the house in areas that aren't completely sun-baked. Let's just get them through winter, first! I get carried away with plans, and then something dies........

I have fallen in love with Bert! He's just what I want for Christmas. When we take our ferry trip at Christmas I'll be scouring the GCs and filling up the car with pots and pots of Bert look-alikes! ;o)

Love your ideas of colour combos Gattina. Wouldn't be without my Cotinus - such a great backdrop for others, in my case a Salvia 'Cerro Potosi' (deep pink flowers) and a pale pink Salvia (amnesia, lol): they flower ALL summer, and cuttings strike easily too. :))
