lol Bloomer! What do they taste like K?

5 Dec, 2011

Where on earth did you get this Latin name from, Karen? I keep Googling and find only catfish. Calabash tree produces Crescentia. Lovely pics of these fruits, and , yes... how do they taste? :-)

Must try this with your tip(ple), Bloomer, in the hope of correct pronown...pronut,,,,,peanut''''''sheashun. Hic!

Nice try,David..now say it after the tipple ! Lol...isn't 'tipple' a strange word ? wonder how that originates ?

6 Dec, 2011

OOOPS!!!
LOL! Was googling catfish as well!!!!! LOL
And it wasn't the drink...honest!
Best go and change it...... :D

Calabash fruits are toxic when fresh with a strong purgitive effect.......the gardener wouldn't let me touch them...!

These ones are about the size of a football and growing above the sleeping crocodiles...who are rudely awakened every so often by a bang on the head! lol!

6 Dec, 2011

What are you like,Karen ? :o)...Serves the crocs right..they sleep too much..! Are they poisonous to them, and other wildlife as well?

6 Dec, 2011

Heehee! Bloomer, I like to know what's lurking under the boat as well (although, maybe it's not always best to know....)!

I don't think anything eats them - except ants...they make hair products from it - I think..
...and the only good crocodile is a sleeping crocodile!! lol!! :D

6 Dec, 2011

ooh,creepy..!..I wonder who decided to make hair products from them..do you mean shampoo, etc ?

6 Dec, 2011

Toxic fruit eh? Is this THE forbidden fruit????????

6 Dec, 2011

Could well be, Pixi!!

6 Dec, 2011

I wonder, too, now, Bloomer. Don't get me off on another websearch, lol!

Like the change, Karen. Toxic!!! Is this why my hair is now falling out? Purgative effects, too???? Hope the gardener was preventing you touching the fruit, and not the results on the lawn? love the image of the crocs being rudely awakened from above. :-)

Just imagine, David...stuck between a calabash and a crocodile - the effects would be very purgative!! lol! :)

I'm going to post a pic of another plant (unidentified) from which they make a potion for preventing stretch-marks!

7 Dec, 2011

Ooerrr, is this like being stuck between a croc and a hard place? Probably won't recognise the plant in your new pic, as haven't ever, and will never, have stretch marks, even by any stretch of imagination (Thank Goodness) Bet it does work, though!! :-))

7 Dec, 2011

Lol! Yes, indeed... :)

They don't go to doctors here, unless they have to...the medicine women make potions for everything....of course, they don't always work...

This tree is beautiful! It's very widely grown in Hawaii for the Calabash...which is used in Hula Dancing. It's grown here in San Diego...however, it's not a very popular tree.

What do they do with the calabash, Delonix?
Here, they hollow them out and use them as bowls, musical instuments etc...or for knocking out crocodiles! lol! :))

12 Dec, 2011

Yes, they are hollowed out and dried. Then they are used by hula dancers...usually tapping the out side of the calabash during the hula dance.

13 Dec, 2011

I never knew that, Delonix... :)

14 Dec, 2011

Here's a video I found using the calabash...it during the middle of the video, though.

Watched this, Delonix. So, are they treated a bit like Gourds, then?

Karen, I need a potion which makes me not need go to work (just like billions of others). :-))

15 Dec, 2011

Just watched it too, Delonix - do the hand movements have meanings?

David, I don't there are enough calabashes in Lagos to hold all the potions you'd need for that one!! :)))

15 Dec, 2011

Yes, all the movement have meaning...they're all in sync with the music.
