Should have added that the white balance (the one that offers flash, shade, full sun etc) was set to auto and image optimization to "vivid".

not sure i have those options??

Used a cheap telephoto lens that someone gave me! Not the best quality, but better than nowt!

Laa la. It is brilliant Meanie. I am tempted to root out a camera with screw on bits.

no screw on bits here, could do with something that would fix the strap - so that i could attach it to where the tripod would normally go.

Just looked online - what I call white balance comes under the tone menu on yours. Image optimization is under the My Colours menu on yours.

No wonder I didn't see it, didn't know I had tone or my colours!

There is such a lot on this camera, it's a clever little thing. Only wish I was half so clever.

They were already on vivid and auto, there is an option to customise that and the camera will even remember optimum settings which is great. Wish I had a memory like the camera.

Nah...........woke up at 5.30.

I've been out since 4:30 Not one decent shot to show for it. Found some poor blokes driving licence and credit cards though...bet his car was robbed when he came to watch Man City match the other day.

I went out again this morning, got all dressed up for the cold, and guess what - a cloud blocked out the moon, in fact a whole bank of cloud, that's it now, maybe try again tonight?
Got a whole day to myself - fabulous!!

When you say best you can do free hand - do you mean it's better with a tripod?

Better with a tripod Sticki - more so if you are using a telephoto lense, but even with a standard camera lens.......
